Chris Hadfield Life

Chris Austin Hadfield (born August 29, 1959) is a Canadian astronaut, engineer, and former Royal Canadian Air Force fighter pilot.

Hadfield, the first Canadian to walk in space, has flown two Space Shuttle missions and served as the first Canadian to walk in space. Hadfield, who was raised on a farm in southern Ontario, was inspired as a child as he watched the Apollo 11 Moon landing on television.

He attended high school in Oakville and Milton and obtained his glider pilot license as a member of the Royal Canadian Air Cadets.

He joined the Canadian Armed Forces and obtained an engineering degree at Royal Military College.

He learned how to fly various types of planes while in the military and later became a test pilot and flew many experimental planes.

He earned a master's degree in aviation systems at the University of Tennessee Space Institute as part of a traineeship with the US Navy and United States Air Force. He was accepted by the Canadian Space Agency in 1992 for his Canadian astronomy program.

He first flies in space aboard the STS-74 in November 1995 as a mission specialist.

During the mission, he visited Mir, the Russian space station.

He flew on STS-100 once more in April 2001, where he walked in space and helped build the Canadarm2.

He flew aboard Soyuz TMA-07M for the third time in December 2012 and joined Expedition 34 on the ISS for the third time.

He was a participant of this expedition until March 2013 when he became the expedition's commander until he took over the ISS as part of Expedition 35.

He was in charge of a team of five astronauts and aided in the execution of scores of scientific studies on the effects of low gravity on human biology.

During the mission, he also gained a following by chronicling life aboard the space station and photographing the Earth from various social media platforms, attracting a large audience around the world.

He appeared on television news and talk shows and gained clout by playing the International Space Station's guitar in space.

He died on May 2013, a mission that was never returned to Earth.

He resigned after returning to work, caping a 35-year career as a military pilot and an explorer.

Personal life

Hadfield was born in Sarnia, Ontario. Roger and Eleanor Hadfield, who live in Milton, Ontario, are his parents. Hadfield was raised on a corn farm in southern Ontario. He was a member of a Wolf Cub Pack that met at the Milton Fairgrounds. He became interested in flying and becoming an astronaut at the age of nine when he saw the Apollo 11 Moon landing on television. He is married to Helene, his high-school sister with whom he has three children: Kyle, Evan, and Kristin Hadfield. Hadfield used to work as a ski instructor at Glen Eden Ski Area before becoming a test pilot.

Hadfield is a descendant of northern England and southern Scotland. During his Soyuz TMA-07M re-entry in May 2013, he is a devoted fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and wore a Leafs jersey under his spacesuit. Hadfield took a photo of himself clutching the Maple Leafs logo during the 2012–2013 NHL lockout, claiming he was "ready to cheer [his team] from orbit." During the Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens game on January 18, 2014, he performed the Canadian National Anthem.

Education and military career

Hadfield attended White Oaks Secondary School in Oakville, Ontario, until his senior year, then graduated as an Ontario Scholar from Milton District High School in 1977. He received a glider pilot scholarship at age 15 and a powered pilot scholarship at age 16. He came from high school in 1978 and spent two years at Royal Roads Military College, then two years at the Royal Military College of Canada, where he earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering in 1982. In 1982, he carried out his post-graduate studies at the University of Waterloo. He completed basic flight training at CFB Portage, Prairie, prior to graduating. He earned the recognition for being the best graduate from CFB Moose Jaw's Basic Jet Training in 1983 and then moved to training as a tactical fighter pilot with the 410 Tactical Fighter Operational Training Squadron at CFB Cold Lake, flying the McDonnell Douglas CF-18 Hornet and the Canadair CF-18 Hornet. Hadfield, a veteran of fighter school, flew CF-18 Hornets with 425 Tactical Fighter Squadron, flying intercept missions for NORAD. He was the first CF-18 pilot to intercept a Soviet Tupolev Tu 95 long-range bomber in the Canadian Arctic.

Hadfield served as an exchange officer with the United States Navy at Edwards Air Force Base in the late 1980s and served as an exchange officer with the US Navy at the Patuxent River Naval Air Station. His achievements ranged from 1989 to 1992, including testing the McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet and LTV A-7 Corsair II aircraft; doing study with NASA on pitch control margin simulation and flight; and participating in the first military flight of the National Aerospace Plane external combustion hydrogen propulsion engine; and participating in the F/A-18 out-of-control recovery project.

Hadfield earned a master's degree in aviation systems from the University of Tennessee Space Institute in May 1992, where his thesis focused on high-angle attack aerodynamics of the F/A-18 Hornet fighter jet. Hadfield has flown more than 70 different models of aircraft in total.

What happens if someone DIES in space?Experts reveal how dead bodies are frozen or MUMMIFIED before sailing through the cosmos for millions of years

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 19, 2023
NASA does not have set rules for dealing with death on space, but academics around the world have outlined how such a tragedy could be dealt with. First of all, it's important to note that there are several ways that space can kill you. Chief among them is being exposed to the space vacuum without a pressurized jacket as shield, perhaps as a result of the garment's wearability or some unexpected failure of a spacecraft that leaves an astronaut exposed to the cosmos.

Chris Hadfield, the former ISS commander, talks exclusively to MailOnline

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 26, 2023
EXCLUSIVE: The 63-year-old Canadian, who is going to visit the United Kingdom for a series of talks this summer, talked exclusively to MailOnline about the Cornish space launch, British astronaut Tim Peake's retirement, and the Artemis missions to the moon later this decade. So what did Hadfield think of Cornwall's maiden launch? People want spaceflight to be straightforward, but it's actually quite difficult.' Everything comes as you're doing it for the first time,' he said. "No one is really set" for launch, but at some point you'll have to give it a try.' 'When it comes to maiden flights, the chances of success are frighteningly poor,' he said.'
