No, this is not my thing. My opinion is irrelevant." When recruited for Fox Files, Roger Ailes, the Fox News chairman, called Cuomo "fearless."

Chris Cuomo talked to his brother, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, on his CNN show while recovering from COVID-19 in early 2020. Cuomo said on his program in March 2021 that he could not comment on any of the allegations surrounding his brother's sexual harassment allegations, acknowledging his apparent conflict of interest.
Cuomo was found to have participated in strategic discussions to advise his brother how to react to the allegations in May 2021. Cuomo's participation in the talks was described as "inappropriate," according to CNN, but that it would not take any discipline against him. Multiple CNN employees felt "exed" by Cuomo's behavior and the breaking of journalist ethics and standards. Cuomo later released an apology and said that warning his brother was a "mistake" that would "never happen again." Cuomo expressed displeasure with his brother's pending departure in August, reiterating that he was not an advisor to Andrew and not advising him that he had persuaded his brother to step down as governor.
Cuomo's office's New York attorney general's office released documents on November 29, 2021, revealing that he used his media sources to uncover facts about his brother's suspected defendants and inquire about the possibility of new accusers who had yet to come forward publicly. Cuomo was also responsible for creating statements for Andrew and that Cuomo was in touch with a top aide to Andrew about forthcoming inquiries into Andrew's suspected misconduct. Cuomo was banned indefinitely from CNN the following day. Cuomo referred to his suspension as "embarrassing," but he understood "why some people act the way they do."
CNN ended Cuomo's employment and announced that they will look into Cuomo's "involvement with his brother's defense" after an internal investigation carried out by a law firm, which was announced on December 4, according to CNN. Cuomo said he never attempted to influence his brother's sexual harassment coverage.
Shelley Ross, Cuomo's former boss, was accused of sexual assault in a New York Times op-ed in September 2021. She said she would "like to see him journalistically repent" rather than asking him to be removed from CNN. Cuomo admitted to the occurrence but described it as "not sexual in nature." He said he "apologized to her now, and I meant it." Debra Katz, the prosecutor representing another Cuomo colleague, told CNN that her client had accused Cuomo of sexual assault in December 2021. The woman said Cuomo invited her to his office for lunch after the woman objected Cuomo's sexual advances Cuomo assaulted her. Katz has since argued that this accusation triggered Cuomo's dismissal.

Cuomo threatened to file a lawsuit against CNN to recover the $18 million of his remaining debt, according to network president Jeff Zucker because of Cuomo's involvement with his brother's defense. Zucker denied this was the case, and later said in a virtual meeting with staff that he had reprimanded Cuomo and that "Chris went further than he had told me and told other members of our senior executive team."
HarperCollins reported on December 7, 2021, that they would not be going forward in releasing Cuomo's book, which was originally named Deep Denial in the fall of 2022. The book was supposed to be an examination of Donald Trump's presidency and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Cuomo filed a Demand for Arbitration claiming $125 million in damages against Turner Services and CNN America on March 16, 2022. Cuomo's "journalistic reputation" had been "unjustifiably smeared," according to the complaint, which would have made it impossible to find similar jobs. He was trying to recover his remaining salary and future earnings after his reputation was jeopardized due to his reputation's damage.
Cuomo revealed that he would host a new primetime program on the Nexstar Media Group-owned channel later this year, during a chat with Dan Abrams on NewsNation.
Cuomo, the new series, premiered on October 3, 2022. Cuomo said he had "learned lessons good and bad" since his CNN demotion, and that his new show would not be "typical" and less partisan in terms of analysis and content, arguing that "extremes are not America's majority" and that "in politics, what you ignore is often empowered." For the right, it has made a mistake in its silence for far too long. Our election was not robbed. Your Republican leaders are aware of this."
