Conte was one of the top performers in the broad jump, finishing fourth among defensive back prospects at the NFL Scouting Combine.

In the third round (93rd overall) of the 2011 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears selected Conte. Conte was the third safety engineer to be drafted in 2011.

The Bears signed Conte to a four-year, $2.60 million deal, which includes a signing bonus of $533,600.

Conte competed for a career as a starting guard against Major Wright and Chris Harris during training camp. Conte is the backup free safety for the regular season, behind Major Wright, according to head coach Lovie Smith.

In the Chicago Bears' season-opening 30–12 victory over the Atlanta Falcons, he made his professional appearance in the Chicago Bears' season-opening 30–12 victory. In the third quarter of a 30–13 loss to the New Orleans Saints, Conte made his first appearance in his career after a six-yard foul on running back Pierre Thomas. In a 39-10 victory over the Minnesota Vikings on October 16, 2011, Conte made his first appearance in his career and posted a season-high six combined tackles. After Meriweather's poor results in the first five games of the season, Conte was deemed the starter. Conte did not get the signal to check out of zone coverage and into man coverage during the game, allowing Randall Cobb to make the catch uncontested. "He just flat blows the reports, everybody else is playing man-to-man coverage, and he lets his wide receiver go straight down the field," NBC Sports analyst Rodney Harrison said on air.
