Miranda revealed in August 2015 that Naig had suffered from a miscarriage, which would have been their first child. He also asked for forgiveness from both his and Naig's families. Miranda and Naig was featured in a Facebook clip the following month, which was different from the first video that aired in August.
Early life and career
Miranda attended grade school and high school at Ateneo de Manila University, where he met Gab Chee Kee, Vinci Montaner, Jeric Estaco, and Mikko Yap. During their high school years, they formed a garage band.
The group was known in school as class clowns. They would normally appear in shows in women's clothing to entertain earthquake victims and typhoons while still singing off-key in poetry readings.
They were eventually hired as front-act band for Parokya ni Edgar, a local Filipino alternative rock band. Buwi Meneses' childhood friend and schoolmate Dindin Moreno joined as bassist and drummer later on. Estaco and Yap's graduation from high school led to the departure of the group in order to pursue other pursuits. Darius Sema (lead guitar), Meneses' former bandmate, joined shortly after to complete the sextet.
Parokya ni Edgar was originally named 'Comic Relief.' However, they retained the name to honor a Noli me tangere parody in their adolescence.
Parokya ni Edgar, one of Manila's most popular clubs at that time, played regularly in Club Dredd until the 1990s. The band gradually grew fame during the Filipino rock boom, with the local rock community beginning to understand the influence of foreign grunge bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden.
After witnessing one of their appearances at Club Dredd, the late managing director of Universal Records, Bella Dy Tan, and Alexis Tan signed them as contract artists. For their debut album Khangkhunghernitz, the band received a triple platinum award.
