Chi Pu was born in Hanoi, Vietnam, on June 14, 1993. Her father is a member of the Vietnamese army, and her mother is an English tutor. She has an older sister who works in finance.
Chi Pu Puyo received acclaim in 2009 after winning the top 20 Miss Teen Vietnam competition. She then moved into animation and became a teen idol.
