Early life and education
Peretti was born in Oakland, California, the daughter of a schoolteacher mother, Amanda Cherkin, and Anthony Peretti, a criminal defense prosecutor and painter father. Her father is of Italian and English descent, and her mother is Jewish. She was born in Oakland, California. She has two brothers and a sister; her older brother, internet entrepreneur Jonah Peretti, co-founded BuzzFeed and The Huffington Post. Chelsea Peretti attended The College Preparatory School in Oakland. She went to Barnard College in 1996, during which time (in her junior year) she spent a year abroad to Royal Holloway, University of London. She graduated in 2000 from the University of On the other hand, she worked for the National Guard in the United States. She attended elementary school with her Brooklyn Nine-Nine co-star Andy Samberg and junior high school with comedian Moshe Kasher.
