My VERY revealing afternoon with Diddy in his luxury caravan in the Californian desert, writes GUY ADAMS as hip-hop mogul faces allegations of rape, abuse and sex trafficking

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 7, 2024
Love is something that I live for,' declared the hip-hop mogul P Diddy when I plucked up the courage to ask about his unconventional private life. 'Love is something that I need. But I haven't been able to be successful at it.' The mood inside the luxury caravan where I was attempting to interview the 41-year-old father of six (by three different women) was in the process of becoming very chilly indeed. 'Is that why,' I continued, 'you've never decided to settle down and get married?'

Owner of Venice's iconic Harry's Bar sues Italian city for allowing speeding boats to wet his patrons' feet

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 2, 2024
Once frequented by the likes of Ernest Hemingway and Charlie Chaplin - and even George Clooney more recently - Harry's Bar is one of the most famous bars in the Italian canal city. First opened in 1931, despite it being renown as the home of the Bellini and Carpaccio, its second branch which overlooks the Giudecca canal is gaining attraction for all the wrong reason. The bar is currently being inundated by waves from speeding boats that regularly go over the 11 km/h (6.8 mph) limit. Now, Arrigo Cipriani, 92, who is the son of the late Giuseppe Cipriani who founded Harry's in 1931, is taking action by suing Venice.

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 27, 2024

Inside the life of Lady Pamela Hicks: The Queen's lady in waiting whose mother left her in a hotel and couldn't find her for six months

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 26, 2024
When her daughter India suggested that she should dust off her photograph albums, dig out her old letters and write a book about her life, Lady Pamela Hicks (pictured) asked: 'Who will be interested?' Fortunately, she allowed herself to be persuaded, and the result is a delightful book which records an era of vast stately homes, lavish house parties, thoroughbred horses and ball gowns. What gives this account added spice is that Pamela Hicks, now 95, is not only fantastically posh but has also been part of the Royal Family's inner circle all her life. The daughters of Earl Mountbatten of Burma and his rich, beautiful wife Edwina, Pamela and her elder sister Patricia were favourite playmates of their cousins, Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret . Pamela was a bridesmaid at Elizabeth's wedding to Prince Philip (another cousin). (Pictured right, Queen Elizabeth II with Lady Hicks.)

ANSWERS TO CORRESPONDENTS: What is the translation of the song Charlie Chaplin sings in Modern Times?

www.dailymail.co.uk, June 9, 2024
In Modern Times (1936) Chaplin performs a song often referred to as The Nonsense Song. It has deliberately nonsensical lyrics, which are a mix of various languages and gibberish. When Chaplin sang the song, it was the first time an audience had heard his voice, since he had become famous in the days before 'talkies'. By singing nonsense he could embrace new sound technology but still appeal to those who liked films in which he said nothing.

Treasure trove of Charlie Chaplin's letters, photos and annotated autobiography notes to go under the hammer for £50,000

www.dailymail.co.uk, May 22, 2024
A remarkable treasure trove of Charlie Chaplin's annotated typescripts, letters and photos is being sold by his goddaughter for £50,000. The scarce material was assembled by British publisher Max Reinhardt who published the comic actor's highly anticipated autobiography in 1964. The archive includes photos of Chaplin as well as letters from the actor himself and his wife Oona detailing his writing process and even a botched attempt to steal his coffin after his death. Mr Reinhardt and his wife Joan became close friends with the English actor, writing to each other regularly and they carefully kept hold of their correspondence. Proceeds of the sale will be donated to MaxLiteracy, a charity and educational initiative set up in his memory to stimulate literacy through the visual arts in partnership with museums, galleries and writers.

Was Charlie Chaplin's grave once robbed?

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 18, 2024
Yes, his coffin was stolen and held for ransom. In 1952 Charlie Chaplin paid a visit to Britain only to find that the U.S. attorney general had revoked his visa (he had never obtained U.S. citizenship) because of alleged Communist sympathies. Incensed, Chaplin vowed never to set foot in the U.S. again. He settled in Switzerland and died there on Christmas Day 1977 in the town of Corsier-sur-Vevey on the banks of Lake Geneva. One morning early in 1978, the local cemetery worker made a startling discovery: a muddy hole where Chaplin's coffin should have been. The Press speculated that a group of neo-Nazis, rabid anti-Semites or a crazed Englishman who wanted to repatriate Chaplin were responsible. Within a few days, the motive was revealed. The coffin was offered for a ransom of 600,000 Swiss francs.

As Prince Harry embraced his wife after winning a charity polo match in Florida on Friday he had more than one reason to celebrate. Less than 24 hours earlier, the Sussexes unveiled two new projects for streaming giant Netflix - a 'cooking and lifestyle' show for Meghan and, most intriguingly, a series about polo hosted by Harry which, it was claimed, 'will provide viewers with unprecedented access to the world of professional polo'. A statement released by Archewell Productions - the company set up by the couple in 2020 after they quit as senior royals and signed a reported £80 million five-year deal with Netflix - declared: 'Known primarily for its aesthetic and social scene, the series will pull the curtain back on the grit and passion of the sport, capturing players and all it takes to compete at the highest level.'
