Charles Saatchi Career

Advertising career

Saatchi undertook his first advertising work as a copywriter in Benton & Bowles' London office, where he met Doris Lockhart (later his first wife). Saatchi partnered with art director Ross Cramer, and the pair collaborated as a team at Collett Dickenson Pearce and John Collins & Partners before relocating in 1967 to open Cramer Saatchi.

They recruited John Hegarty, who would later go on to lead Benton & Bowles, and Jeremy Sinclair, who still holds a senior role at M&C Saatchi, who will later take over Benton & Bowles. They also took on some clients directly in lieu of providing consulting with ad agencies.

He founded Saatchi & Saatchi with his brother Maurice in 1970, and the company, which later acquired Ted Bates, had grown to become the world's biggest advertising firm, with over 600 offices. Silk Cut's ads in the United Kingdom included advertisements in preparations for the ban on named tobacco advertisements, and the Conservative Party's 1979 general election victory, led by Margaret Thatcher with the slogan "Labour Isn't Working."

Saatchi and his brother left the company and together formed M&C Saatchi, taking with them many of the agency's leadership and creative employees, as well as a large number of clients, including British Airways.

Revealed: Meghan's REAL money spinner. No, it's not jam - but something much more lucrative... as the Netflix deal looks to be back on and is key to making the Sussexes millions, write ALISON BOSHOFF and RICHARD EDEN

Her latest 'drop' of goods, bearing the faux-heraldic 'ARO' crest of her not-quite-launched brand American Riviera Orchard, comprised just two jars of raspberry jam and one stylish container of dog biscuits. We can reveal, however, that the much-publicised jams will not be first out of the traps as a money spinner for Meghan Inc. Indeed, they seem to be something of a red herring. Rather, a source tells us that the priority is instead the launch of a... rosé wine.

Tracey Emin, who sold her grubby sheets and surrounding detritus for a rumoured £150,000 to Charles Saatchi, has been welcomed into the Establishment for services to art. Known for her autobiographical and confessional pieces, another of her most infamous works was a tent decorated with 102 names of lovers, friends and family members entitled Everyone I Have Ever Slept With 1963-1995. The artist, who lives in Margate, Kent, said of her award: 'Dame Tracey has a good ring to it.
