When the site was launched in 2005, YouTube creators Jawed Karim (top right) and Steven Chen (bottom right) had very different visions for the site (inset). They eventually decided to abandon their plans and launch it as merely a video sharing portal, with the first video (left) of Karim at San Diego Zoo. In 2006, Chen, Karim, and co-founder Chad Hurley sold the website to Google for $1.65 billion.
