When a massive snowstorm struck southern California during their hiking trip, two teenage boys were left homeless. During a 10-day hiking trip late last month, Riley Ramirez and Cole White, both 17, were dropped off near the Pacific Crest Trail for a 10-day hiking trip. When the unexpectedly heavy storm struck, the pair were seasoned hikers and were set for the long hike with food, a tent, and snowshoes.

The death toll from a series of hurricanes that have wreaked havoc on the United States continues to rise on Sunday as the Midwest and South cleanup and the West Coast attempt to dig out from the snow. On March 4, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear announced that five people had been killed in various counties due to the severe weather, including high winds. One more person died indirectly. Multiple people were killed in Alabama, including at least three children from fallen trees, a fatality in Mississippi after a tree branch fell onto a woman's car, and a man was killed by floodwaters in Arkansas. Residents and visitors in Southern California resorted to writing out S.O.S. because they were so late. While being stranded for more than a week, messages in the snow have been sent. 'It feels helpless right, and it's just a frustrating kind of helpless,' said one man who has been stranded in the San Bernardino mountains for nearly two weeks.
