Carolina Herrera (born 8 January 1939) is a Venezuelan fashion designer best known for her "extraordinary personal style" and for dressing various First Ladies, including Jacqueline Onassis, Laura Bush, and Michelle Obama.

Early life

Mara Cristina Nio is a university student at the University of Caracas, Venezuela. Guillermo Pacanins Acevedo, an air force officer and former governor of Caracas, and former governor of Venezuela, was born on January 8th, 1939, in Caracas, Venezuela. Her socialite grandmother introduced her to the world of fashion, taking young Carolina to exhibition by Balenciaga and purchasing her Lanvin and Dior outfits. "My eye was used to seeing pretty things," she said.

Personal life

Herrera married Guillermo Behrens Tello, a Venezuelan landowner, at the age of 18. The parents of two daughters were born in 1964, long before their eventual divorce.

Reinaldo Herrera Guevara, who had inherited the Spanish name The 5th Marquis of Torre Casa in 1968, died in Caracas. Reinaldo was the host of Buenos Das, a Venezuelan morning television news show, and Don Reinaldo Herrera Uslar, his elder son, 4th Marquis de Torre Casa, a well-known Venezuelan sugarcane plantation owner, aristocrat, and art collector. Since Reinaldo had no son, Carolina retained the name The Marquise consort of Torre Casa until it was retracted in 1992. Her husband is a special-projects editor of Vanity Fair magazine. Career and brand

Herrera began her career as a publicist for Emilio Pucci, a Florentine Marquis herself and a close family friend. She began working at Pucci's Caracas boutique and later moved to New York in 1980. She is best known for her dramatic style and enjoys her time at Studio 54. She first appeared on the International Best Dressed List in 1972, and then in 1980, she was elected to the Hall of Fame. Diana Vreeland, then Editor-in-Chief of Vogue, suggested that Carolina develop a clothing collection in 1981. She did so by obtaining samples in Caracas and launching her collection at the Metropolitan Club in Manhattan to critical acclaim. Martha's, a well-known Park Avenue boutique, has decided to display her clothing in their prominent windows. Following this initial success, she returned to Caracas and raised money to finance a more formal launch. Future supermodel Iman attended her first runway show in 1980. At Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York, Carolina Herrera reveals her Ready-to-Wear Collection semiannually.

The company has been headquartered in New York City since 1980, and in 1981, it was recognized by a number of influential publications, including Women's Wear Daily and Tatler, for the company's well-designed sleeves, which attracted particular interest. Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, who requested her to design the dress for her daughter Caroline's wedding, to Prince Charles-Philippe of Orléans, Duke of Anjou, and actress Renée Zellweger were among her most recent clients.

Puig, a Spanish fragrance firm, granted the Carolina Herrera brand in the late 1980s to produce and sell a line of perfumes. The company purchased the Carolina Herrera fashion company in 1995, keeping her as Creative Director. CH Carolina Herrera, a ready-to-wear brand, was launched in 2008; as of 2012, there were 18 Carolina Herrera and CH Carolina Herrera boutiques in the world, and her lines were sold in 280 stores in 104 countries. Carolina Jr. and Patricia Lansing, both of whom were children in 2011 and 2012, were involved in the creative direction and design. According to WWD, the fragrance side of the company sold more than 25,000 points of sale around the world in February 2016, while the CH brand had 129 freestanding stores.

The first commercial for the brand was released in 2015, starring models Elisabeth Erm and Joséphine Le Tutour.

Herrera reported in July that her latest women's fragrance would be available in September, her first fragrance launch in 14 years. The scent is titled 'Good Girl,' and Karlie Kloss is the front of the line.'

Herrera displayed her last line for her eponymous brand in 2018 before handing over the brand's creative directorship to Wes Gordon.

Herrera was named "Womenswear Designer of the Year" in 2008 and the Council of Fashion Designers of America's Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award and "Womenswear Designer of the Year" in 2008. Herrera was given the Award of Excellence by the International Center in New York, as well as Spain's Gold Medal for Merit in the Fine Arts, which was presented to her in 2002 by King Juan Carlos I. In 1997, she was given the Gold Medal of the Queen Sofa Spanish Institute.

In 2012, she was named "Mercedes-Benz Presents" Award, the Fashion Group International Superstar Award, the Style Awards Designer of the Year, and "Mercedes-Benz Presents" honor for her 2011 collection. She has been on the front page of Vogue seven times.

Mimi Soss' board of directors and, since 2004, she has served on the board of directors of jewelry designer Mimi Sose and, since 1999, she has served on the CFDA's board of directors.

During the International Achievement Summit in New York City in 2005, she received the Golden Plate Award of the American Academy of Achievement.

She received the 2014 Couture Council Award for Artistry of Fashion in 2014.
