Carlos Monzón Life

Carlos Roque Monzón Ledesma (Santa Fe, Argentina; 7 August 1942 – Santa Fe, Argentina; 8 January 1995), a professional boxer who dominated the Argentine middleweight championship for seven years, was Carlos Roque Monzón Ledesma, nicknamed Escopeta (Shotgun in Spanish).

He has successfully defended his name 14 times and is widely regarded as not only one of the best middleweights in history but also one of the best boxers of all time, pound for pound.

Monzon, who is known for his lightning, punching power, and a high work rate, finished his career with a record of 87-3-9. With 59 knockouts, each one of his losses were early in his career and were avenged.

In 1990, he was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame as the 11th best fighter of the last 80 years and praised him as the best middleweight champions of the last 50 years.

Monzón has the second longest unified championship reign in middleweight history, with nine consecutive victories as of January 2018. Throughout his life, Argentinians adored Monzon.

Both by the media and Argentine people, his glamorous and violent life was closely followed.

However, he was accused of domestic assault by his two wives and several mistresses, as well as beating paparazzi.

In 1988, the former champion was found guilty of murdering his wife Alicia Muiz in Mar del Plata.

During a weekend furlough in January 1995, he died in a car crash.

Early life

Monzón was born in San Javier, Argentina, to a family of Mocov's descent. Roque Monzón and Amalia Ledesma were his parents. Monzón and his twelve siblings were raised in poverty. When Monzón was six years old, his family migrated to Barranquitas Oeste, a poor neighborhood of Santa Fe, Santa Fe Province's capital. He left school in the third grade and spent time in diverse occupations, including shoehiner, paperboy, and milkman. He expressed an interest in boxing as a youngster.

Carlos Alberto Monzón, his first son, was born in 1690s and met Zulema Encarnación Torres, with whom he had his first son. He married Mercedes Beatriz Garca on May 11, 1962, who was dubbed 'Pelusa' later in life. They were so poor that they didn't have enough funds to buy the marriage license. Silvia Beatriz, Abel Ricardo, and Carlos Rall were three children (who was adopted).

Personal life

Monzón was incredibly popular throughout his entire career. Argentina would remain silent, cities had no traffic, and all television sets and radios were tuned to the fight during Monzón's wars. Susana Giménez, a well-known actress and model, was on filming La Mary. They began a turbulent love that culminated in Monzón's divorce. Since then, his glamorous yet often violent life was closely followed by the media. He toured Latin America and Europe with Argentine models and actresses.

Although Monzón is still a champion, a darker side of the sport has emerged. Monzón was shot in the leg by his then wife, Mercedes Beatriz Garca, who had a daughter and two sons (one of whom was adopted). To remove the bullet from Monzón's leg, the shooting required seven hours of surgery. He began a public romance with Susana Giménez in 1975; the two actors met in the 1974 thriller La Mary, directed by Daniel Tinayre, where the two played husband and wife. Monzón feared paparazzi who were more specific about his affairs. He and Giménez went to Italy to film and began to travel with her around Brazil and the rest of Latin America, allowing him to be seen with her although she is still legally married. He had been accused of domestic abuse as well as beating paparazzi.

The police had repeatedly arrested Monzón. Giménez began wearing sunglasses more often, presumably to hide her bruises, and paparazzi had to be hospitalized several times from the beatings suffered by Monzón, who had unpredictable violent outbreaks. During this time, Monzón and Mercedes Beatriz Garcia married after a while.

Susana Giménez was born in 1978 and has been with him ever since. Monzón's private life was fairly low-key for a few years after the breakup. He met Uruguayan model Alicia Muz, with whom he had a long-term friendship. Maximiliano Roque and his wife later married and had a son together. However, his violent conduct stayed. He defeated Muiz on February 14, 1988 while vacationing in Mar del Plata's resort city. According to the probe, he strangled her into unconsciousness, picked her up, and pushed her off the second floor balcony, killing her. Monzón was found guilty of murder on July 3, 1989. He was given an 11-year prison term.

Monzón obtained a weekend furlough while serving his term in Cárcel de Las Flores, Santa Fe Province, to visit his family and children in January 1995. Gerónimo Domingo Mottura, a passenger, was killed immediately after his vehicle rolled over near Santa Rosa de Calchines on January 8, 1995, as he returned to prison for the weekend. Alicia Guadalupe Fessia, Monzón's sister-in-law, was injured.

And in death, Monzón attracted a crowd. During his funeral, thousands of people sang "Dale campeón" ("Go Champ") ("Go Champ" ("Go Champ."
