Early life
Damini Egulu was born in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria, and Nigeria's Damini Egitu. Bose Ogulu's mother worked as a language translator and his father, Samuel, owned a welding business. Benson Idonije, his maternal grandfather, once oversaw Nigerian multi-instrumentalist Fela Kuti. Later, his mother would become his boss. Ogulu grew up in southern Nigeria and began producing his own beats with the help of FL Studio. He attended Corona Secondary School in Agbara (Ogun State) and then migrated to London to continue his studies. He studied media technology at the University of Sussex from 2008 to 2009, then specialized in media communications and culture at Oxford Brookes University from 2009 to 2010. He returned to Port Harcourt after completing a year-long internship with Rhythm 93.7 FM. After returning to Lagos, he began his music career.

Career
L.I.F.E., Burna Boy's debut studio album, was released on August 12, 2013, as the sequel to his second mixtape Burn Identity (2011). On the first day of its introduction, the album sold 40,000 copies. Aristokrat Records later sold its advertising rights to Uba Pacific for 10 million. The album's debut was preceded by five singles: "Like to Party," "Tonight," "Always Love You," "Run My Race," and "Yawa Dey." L.I.F.E. was entirely created by Leriq and showcases guest appearances from 2face Idibia, M.I., Timaya, Olamide, Reminisce, and Wizkid, among others. The album was ranked 10th on its list of the 12th Best Albums of 2013. The album's music was inspired by Fela Kuti, King Sunny Ade, and Bob Marley. Music critics generally lauded the album's success, while music critics applauded its production. At the 2014 Nigeria Entertainment Awards, it was nominated for Best Album of the Year. L.I.F.E. reached the top of the Billboard Reggae Albums chart in August 2013.

Burna Boy performed at the O2 Academy Brixton in London on October 7, 2018. He held a pop-up event at Red by Little Farm, selling limited boxes of his Space Puffs cereal, as well as custom notepads, lighters, and graphic tee-shirts a day before the show. Burna Boy, a Los Angeles-based electronic duo DJDS, released a 4-track collaborative EP titled Steel & Copper on March 21, 2019. Burna Boy's upbeat melodies are mixed with DJDS' slicky trap beats. He started recording the album in 2018 and told Billboard that it was his most personal project to date. In April 2019, he first announced plans to broadcast it in Los Angeles and held a private listening session. Images and videos from the listening session were posted on social media. African Giant's debut was on cassettes as a 16-track record. Burna Boy headlined the African Giant Returns tour, the second leg of his African Giant tour. "My Money, My Baby," Burna Boy's hit song on Queen & Slim's soundtrack album, was released. "My Money, My Baby" - a video of Fela Kuti's 1972 album "Shakara," described as a "Afrobeat-ting track." He received the Grammy Award for Best Global Music Album at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards on March 15, 2021. "Destiny," Burna Boy's song, was included in the playlist at Joe Biden's inauguration. He added another achievement to his repertoire at the BET Awards 2021, where he received the Best International Act. With this win, he became the first African artiste to receive three nominations and victories in a row, winning the BET Award in 2020 and 2021.
Burna Boy appeared on Canadian singer Justin Bieber's album "Loved by You," a track from his sixth studio album, Justice, on March 19, 2021. He appeared on American singer-songwriter Jon Bellion's single "I Feel It," the first musical collaboration between the two performers, but Justin Bieber co-wrote "Loved by You" on September 17, 2021.
