Brett Whiteley, AO (7 April 1939 – June 1992) was an Australian artist.
He is represented in all of Australia's major galleries' collections, and he has twice been named in the Archibald, Wynne, and Sulman awards.

Early years
Whiteley, a student at Scots School, Bathurst, and Scots College, Bellevue Hill, grew up in Longueville, a suburb of Sydney. He began drawing at a young age. When he was a boy, he painted on weekends in New South Wales and Canberra, Australia, with pieces like The soup kitchen (1958). Whiteley attended drawing lessons from 1956 to 1959 at the National Art School in East Sydney. Russell Drysdale judged him in 1959 when he was granted an art scholarship funded by the Italian government and judged by Russell Drysdale. On January 23, 1960, he left Australia for Europe.
