Brendan Cole (born 23 April 1976) is a New Zealand ballroom dancer specialising in Latin American dancing.
He is best known for his appearance on BBC One's Strictly Come Dancing.
He appeared on the New Zealand version of Dancing with the Stars from 2005 to 2009.
Personal life
Cole married Zoe Hobbs, a British model who gave birth to their first child, daughter Aurelia, on Christmas Day 2012. Zoe gave birth to their son Danté in March 2018. The family now lives in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, United Kingdom.
Early life and career
Cole was born in Christchurch, New Zealand. He has been dancing since he was six years old and moved to the United Kingdom when he was eighteen, where he studied the pasodoble, ballroom, and ballet at Donaheys, Clayton, Manchester. Cole was a builder and roof layer before starting classes at 17.
He performed with Camilla Dallerup, a fellow contestant on the BBC's older shows Come Dancing, from 1996 to 2004, then as professionals from 2002 to 2004. They were competing in New Zealand: Dallerup is Danish-born and they represent New Zealand. At the UK Closed Championships in 2003, Dallerup and Cole finished 3rd for Latin American.
He had his first acting role in Everything to Dance, starring Sasha Jackson, Travis Oliver, and Sally Reeve in the winter of 2004.
Cole appeared on the New Zealand travel show Intrepid Journeys in October 2009. He was caught killing and eating a chicken during a hunting lesson filmed in Vanuatu, causing international news coverage. In October 2019, he started competing in The X Factor: Celebrity alongside Jeremy Edwards.
