During the demolition, the immediate landscape, graves, and headstones will be shielded. Governor Glenn Youngkin of Virginia does not agree with the decision and plans to relocate the monument to the New Market Battlefield State Historical Park in the Shenandoah Valley, according to Youngkin spokeswoman Macaulay Porter. Youngkin also opposes the Biden administration's decision to erase the statue and grave of the monument's sculptor, Moses Ezekiel, from the cemetery.
