Bostjan Nachbar Career

Professional career

Nachbar began his professional career by playing for Olimpija Ljubljana's basketball team in the 1997–98 season. He competed in Europe's top-level tournament, Olimpija, where he averaged 7 points and 2 rebounds per game. He joined Benetton Treviso basketball team as the youngest Italian League player in 2000-2001. In the EuroLeague, Benetton averaged 4 points and grabbed 2 rebounds. He helped Benetton reach the Final Four of the EuroLeague this season by raising his stats to 13 points and 4 rebounds per game. In his best game of the season, he defeated Idea Slask Wroclaw, scoring 28 points and hitting 6 three-pointers. In 2002, he captured the Italian League championship and the Italian Supercup.

The Houston Rockets selected Nachbar as the 15th overall pick in the 2002 NBA Draft. He was with the Rockets for three seasons, but he only played about ten minutes per game. He played for the New Orleans Hornets in 2004, where he scored 8 points in 21 minutes per game. He scored 21 points against his former team, the Rockets, during the 2004-2005 NBA season, which was a career high. However, he had a difficult time getting off the bench once more in the 2005–06 season, though, and was dealt to the New Jersey Nets right before the trading deadline in exchange for Marc Jackson, Linton Johnson, and cash considerations. He had a stellar season with New Jersey as the team's sixth man, making numerous contributions to the club before losing in the Eastern Conference semis to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Nachbar's last NBA game was played on April 16th, 2008, when the Boston Celtics lost 94-105, with 11 points, 1 assist, and 1 block.

Nachbar returned to Europe on July 20, 2008, after signing a 3-year €9.6 million net income deal with the Russian Superleague club Dynamo Moscow, giving him one of the most lucrative European pro basketball contracts ever. After each season, the deal would have opt out clauses. During Europe's second level competition, the EuroCup, he averaged 16.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.4 steals.

On May 17, 2009, Nachbar decided against his Dynamo Moscow deal. In July 2009, he agreed to a two-year contract with a team option for the second year with Turkish League team Efes Pilsen. In the EuroLeague's 2009-2010 season, he averaged 6.7 points and 1.9 rebounds per game. Nachbar's second year with Efes has seen an increase in his EuroLeague stats, winning 8.3 points and 2.8 rebounds. Nachbar revealed on Twitter on June 24, 2011 that he did not return for a third season with the team.

Nachbar was forced to miss the 2011-12 season due to an ankle injury. Since recovering from the injury, he was regarded as a potential backup for several NBA teams. Nachbar, who did not get a job in the NBA, joined Russian League team UNICS Kazan in January 2012 until the season's end. He wasn't able to do well in UNICS, scoring only 3.2 PPG in the Russian league.

In July 2012, he joined Brose Baskets Bamberg. He had a fruitful season leading the team to the EuroLeague's second best scorer with 16.1 points per game. In the finals series against EWE Baskets Oldenburg, he helped the team regained their Basketball Bundesliga title by beating them 3-0.

Nachbar signed a two-year contract with FC Barcelona on July 23, 2013.

He signed a one-year contract with Baloncesto Sevilla on August 18, 2015.

Nachbar resigned on May 14, 2018.

National team career

Nachbar was a member of the senior Slovenian national basketball team. He appeared at EuroBasket 2005, EuroBasket 2005, EuroBasket 2009, and EuroBasket 2013. He averaged 11 points and 5 rebounds per game during the 2005 FIBA Eurobasket. He was also a member of Slovenia's national team, which competed in the 2006 FIBA World Championship in Japan.

He was also a member of Slovenia's national team that competed in the 2010 FIBA World Championship in Istanbul. EuroBasket 2013, which took place in Slovenia, was his last game before he was banned from the national team.
