Bobby L. McCray, Jr. (born August 8, 1981) is an American former college and professional football player who played for seven seasons in the National Football League (NFL).

He played college football for the University of Florida.

He was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the seventh round of the 2004 NFL Draft and spent time with the New Orleans Saints and Philadelphia Eagles.

Early years

McCray was born in 1981 in Miami, Florida. He attended Homestead High School in Homestead, Florida, and he competed for the Homestead Broncos high school football team. Despite missing half of the season due to a back injury, McCray was named to the Prep Stars All-America team as a senior. He had thirty-two tackles with seven quarterback sacks.

Personal life

Khadijah Haqq, a retired actor, was married by McCray on July 17, 2010. Bobby Louis McCray III, born February 2004, is the fourth child of McCray and Leon McCray; Celine Amelia McCray was born January 20, 1920; Kapri Naomi McCray was born January 2021.

In December 2009, McCray was banned from driving while intoxicated. McCray pleaded guilty of filing "bogus" charges under investigation by the court. In October 2006, McCray was arrested and charged with reckless driving and heroin use.

Bobby McCray Career

College career

McCray, a student at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, where he competed for Florida's football teams from 2000 to 2003. He was redshirted by the Gators' coaching staff as a true freshman in 1999. He appeared in three games during the Gators' 2000 season. In eight of 11 regular season games with two starts, he saw action, eight tackles, two tackles-for-loss, and two forced fumbles.

McCray appeared in all thirteen games, beginning in five, and was a second-team All-Southeastern Conference (SEC) pick by The Sporting News during his 2002 season. He had forty-five tackles (twenty solo), and 22.3 "big plays" (2.3 sacks, four tackles-for-loss, a fumble recovery, and a block). He received second-team All-SEC recognition as a senior in 2003. He appeared in twelve games, began in eight, and finished with fifty tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, and nine sacks.

McCray appeared in thirty-six games for the Gators, including fifteen starts and thirteen in the first two years, during his four-season college career. He had 107 tackles, 20.5 stops for losses, thirty-one quarterback pressures, two pass deflections, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.

Professional career

McCray was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the seventh round of the 2004 NFL Draft, and he played for the Jaguars for four seasons from 2004 to 2007. He appeared in all sixteen of the Jaguars' regular season games, made seven starts, and had 25 tackles (19 solo) and 3.5 sacks. In 2005, he appeared in all 16 games for the second straight season, with one starting and receiving 23 tackles (20 solo) as well as 5.5 sacks. He appeared in 12 games and totaled 49 tackles (42 solo), 10 sacks, and two forced fumbles in 2006. McCray played in 14 games along the Jacksonville defensive line, making nine starts and collecting 24 tackles, three sacks, and sparked a fumble. McCray played both postseason games and notched four tackles, a sack and a forced fumble, and he even sparked a scramble on Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who was drafted and caused a scramble.

McCray agreed to a five-year, $20 million deal with the New Orleans Saints on March 2, 2008. The deal was worth $5 million in guarantees. In 2008, he appeared in 16 games, made eight starts, and had six sacks.

McCray played in 16 games as a reserve in 2009, but he was involved in all three of the Saints' post-season games that culminated in the team's victory in Super Bowl XLIV. McCray's first playoff game against Arizona after Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner threw an interceptor, caused a tough, but legal, block that briefly pulled Warner out of the game; McCray's teammate Darren Sharper referred to McCray's play as "game-changing." In the 2010 NFC Championship game, McCray was fined $20,000 for unlawful hits on Minnesota Vikings Quarterback Brett Favre.

McCray earned the nickname "Quarterback Killa" after a season with the New Orleans Saints.

President Obama visited McCray and the rest of the New Orleans Saints at the White House on August 9, 2010.

McCray was first published on June 21, 2010. On July 22, 2010, the Saints announced that he had re-signed to a one-year deal. On September 3, 2010, he was postponed.

McCray dedicated his 2008 season to After School All-Stars, a national charity that provides comprehensive after school activities that are exciting for children while also helping them stay safe and help them succeed in school and life. Bobby donates $1000 to the charity with every sack he earns.
