The illegal e-bike menace plaguing our streets has doubled year after year, as families of victims of crashes demand that the crackdown be addressed
www.dailymail.co.uk,
March 31, 2024
The number of unlawful e-bikes riding on the streets of the United Kingdom has doubled in the space of just one year, it has been revealed. According to police records, 260 electric powered bicycles were confiscated by officers last year, double the 130 confiscated in 2022 and four times as many as the 61 that were confiscated in the year before. Following Freedom of Information requests, 15 organisations were gathered, but the true number is expected to be much larger because many of England and Wales' 43 police departments don't have detailed information on these seizures. It comes as a result of increasing calls for reforms in the legislation to combat the danger of e-bikes, some of which are modified to meet speed limits or used in conjunction with crime. Families of those killed in accidents involving electric vehicles have requested that the government toughen laws as the e-bikes have become more popular, with one of the owners' daughter stating that they have been 'almost impossible to regulate.'

Residents were compelled to leave the inferno on foot, with some claiming that it took as little as five to ten minutes for them to become desperate. However, Hawaii emergency response data shows there were no signs that the warning sirens were activated before a devastating wildfire killed at least 53 people and wiped out a historic town, according to officials on Thursday. Many of Lahaina's residents said they didn't hear any sirens and only knew they were in danger when they saw fires or heard explosions nearby.
