WALKER: There is a way that this apparently painful exercise in government inefficiency will ultimately resolve one of Washington DC's biggest modern tragedies - its inability to monitor spending. McCarthy has made several compromises to hold out Republicans to date. He has promised to make it easier for rank-and-file Republicans to compel a vote to exclude him, but he has confirmed that a political commission joined by him would not interfere in Republican primary elections. So far, none of these compromises have been enough to persuade a large number of insurgent Republicans to drop their war.
