Early life
Bob Peak was born in Denver, Colorado, and grew up in Wichita, Kansas. He knew he wanted to be a commercial illustrator from an early age. He studied geology at the University of Wichita (nka Wichita State University) and then worked part-time in McCormick-Armstrong's art department. Peak earned his diploma in 1951 after being in the military during the Korean War.
Peak moved to New York City in 1953 and landed an Old Hickory Whiskey advertising campaign. His work has since appeared in major advertisements and national newspapers.

Career
Peak was hired by the United Artists studio in 1961 to produce the film West Side Story's poster images. Peak's work on that film led to designer Bill Gold's work on posters, including the big-budget musicals My Fair Lady and Camelot. Peak's style would become familiar to followers of science fiction films in the mid-1970s when he created the poster art for the futuristic film Rollerball (1975), Excalibur (1981), and other James Bond films in the 1980s, A Spy Who Loved Me (1979). Only the film poster artist Drew Struzan was in as much demand by film directors by the 1980s.
Peak was given a commission from the United States. In Sarajevo, Yugoslavia, the Postal Service will produce 30 stamps for the 1984 Summer Olympics and the 1984 Winter Olympics.
