What is Mastodon?Everything you need to know about Twitter's rival

www.dailymail.co.uk, November 7, 2022
Mastodon, named after the extinct elephant-like mammal, is a free, open-source social media network that supports Android, iOS, and desktop. It was launched in March 2016 by German software developer Eugen Rochko (bottom left), who wanted to give customers more autonomy over what they see and how content is moderated. Mastodon is similar to Twitter, but it describes itself as a "decentralized" alternative that doesn't have "one company monopolizing communications." According to Mastodon, the site now has more than 65,000 users, two30,000 of whom have joined in the last week. MailOnline explores how Mastodon works and what setting up an account really does.
