Live Aid - one of the oldest charity concerts of all time - is back... but not quite as fans expect it. The festival, which took place in Philadelphia and Wembley Stadium on July 13, 1985, has been turned into a stage musical at the Old Vic in London. The musical honors the day when Bob Dylan, David Bowie, The Who, U2, Queen, Elton John, Elton John, Elton John, Diana Ross, and others came together on stage to raise funds and awareness for the Ethiopian famine crisis. The plot of the film, which takes its name from a line in David Bowie's song Heroes, includes a behind-the-scenes glimpse at how Band Aid and Live Aid came together with a love story based on true events. Last night, Bob Geldof, 72, who produced the first performance with fellow musician Midge Ure, was one of a slew of celebrities at the press night for the new musical (pictured left). At the start-studded outing, he was joined by his daughter Pixie (both pictured right). TV commentators have been offering their verdicts since the event (pictured inset).

GRIFF RHYS JONES pays tribute to Mel Smith's death on the tenth anniversary of the comedian's death

www.dailymail.co.uk, July 29, 2023
GRIFF RHYS JONES: Last week, I was actually surprised when an old friend called me out of the blue to say that it had been ten years since Mel Smith died. I don't mean I was surprised he was in touch. He didn't want me to go and lay a wreath or something. I couldn't believe it was ten years since July 2013, on a day just like this, with wood pigeons practising their school recorder scales outside, Jo Johnson dropped her voice in the room next door and started saying things like, 'Om, I'm so sorry to hear that...' and 'if there is anything we can do...' I was still sneaking out to join the wood pigeons.' It was the surprising revelation that we had all been half-expecting. Mel was dead. It was a heart attack in his sleep after a rough stretch of illness. He was 60 years old.
