Bob Daisley Career

Early career

Daisley began playing guitar at age 13 and then moved to bass at 14. His rapid development earned him local fame, particularly because of his collaboration with guitarist Dennis Wilson of The Powerpact and Mecca; Mecca's only single release, "Black Sally," became an underground hit, and Human Instinct covered it on their Stoned Guitar album. Tim Gaze and Dannie Davidson, a Daisley and Wilson boy, later formed Kahvas Jute, a Tamam Shud group. In 1971, they released Wide Open, a debut on Infinity Records.

Daisley first came to international prominence as a bass player and member of the English blues band Chicken Shack in 1972 before going on to perform with Mungo Jerry in 1973 and their 1974 album Long-Legged Women Dressed in Black. He co-founded Widowmaker, contributing to two albums, 1975's self-titled debut and Too Late to Cry in 1977. He appeared with Ritchie Blackmore's band Rainbow in the same year and then appeared on Long Live Rock 'n' Roll tracks. He stayed with Rainbow until 1979, when he was replaced by Blackmore's ex-Deep Purple bandmate Roger Glover.

Daisley met Ozzy Osbourne at a Camden Town venue called the Music Machine, and Osbourne suggested they form a band with former Quiet Riot guitarist Randy Rhoads, who Osbourne had just seen in Los Angeles. The trio recruited ex-Uriah Heep drummer Lee Kerslake and settled on the band name The Blizzard of Ozz, despite a record company's billing the act as "Ozzy Osbourne."

Daisley performed bass and backing vocals, as well as songwriting and co-production on the group's first album, Blizzard of Ozz, and co-wrote all of the content on the follow-up album Diary of a Madman's successor. Rudy Sarzo and Tommy Aldridge appeared in their artwork and credits on the album. Daisley and Kerslake were able to sue Jet Records and Don Arden in 1986 for their royalties and to have their contribution credits to the Diary of a Madman. When Daisley and Kerslake purchased the early albums' publishing rights, they filed a lawsuit alleging unpaid performance royalties and accreditation. Sharon Ozzy's knowledge responded to this by deleting the original recordings and releasing new CD versions with the bass and drum tracks that were re-recorded by Robert Trujillo and Mike Bordin in 2002. The United States District Court in Los Angeles dismissed Daisley and Kerslake's complaint in 2003. The United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit upheld this dismissal. In 2011, Sony Legacy released both of Daisley and Kerslake's bass and drum parts.

Daisley continued to write and record for Osbourne through the 1980s, appearing on and/or writing for Bark at the Moon (1983), No Rest for the Wicked (1988). He maintained his working relationship with the Osbournes until 1991's No More Tears album, which featured his bass playing on all tracks. In the album's promotional videos, Mike Inez (who later joined Alice in Chains) appeared.

Daisley joined Uriah Heep in 1981 alongside Kerslake and stayed with them until the following year, producing two albums, Abominog and Head First, which both helped to rekindle some enthusiasm in the band.

Daisley also performed many albums with Gary Moore and toured extensively with him during his on-off appearance with Osbourne.

As the band's real bass player Dave Spitz had personal obligations to attend in 1986, he was approached by producer Jeff Glixman to appear on the Black Sabbath album The Eternal Idol. Spitz, on the other hand, was released on the final release. Daisley was offered the bassist's spot in Black Sabbath but decided against it due to his relationship with Gary Moore, with whom he continued to perform from time to time until the guitarist's death in 2011.

Daisley has contributed to a number of recordings as bassist, lyricist, and producer, including those by Yngwie Malmsteen, Takara, Bill Ward, Black Sabbath, and Jeff Watson of Night Ranger. With vocalist Joe Lynn Turner and drummer Carmine Appice, Daisley and Watson teamed up once more to form Mother's Army. He co-starred with Lee Kerslake, Steve Morse of Deep Purple, and Australian rock singer Jimmy Barnes in 2003, following his second and unsuccessful match against Ozzy Osbourne, and Australian rock singer Jimmy Barnes to record an album under the name Living Loud. Six of the album's eleven songs were covers from Blizzard of Ozz and Diary of a Madman. On the Living Loud album, Don Airey played keyboards. Daisley and the Australian blues band The Hoochie Men for a live DVD and CD release on February 7, 2003. Jon Lord, a Deep Purple organist, and Jimmy Barnes were among the featured guests. The Hoochie Coochie Men released Danger: White Men Dancing in 2007, which also stars Jon Lord. Daisley was hired to produce the debut album of Adelaide-based hard rock band Cherry Grind in September 2014.

In August 2013, Daisley's autobiography For Facts Sake was published.
