Around 10.15 a.m. on Wednesday, two people were discovered dead and one was critically ill inside Brighton Tower 1 in Syracuse, and another was critically ill from an unknown drug that had caused at least nine others to die from exposure. Three police officers and one firefighter became sick from the exposure and had an elevated heart rate and nausea, which were signs of a tranq overdose. Authorities haven't said what the drug was at the scene, as testing is still underway, but it does say it is 'inconsistent with fentanyl overdoses.' They were taken to the hospital, where nurses and an EMT became sick, and the Emergency Room was closed for two hours to prevent exposure. The sixth floor of the Brighton apartments had been evacuated for a brief period of time while a HAZMAT team investigated and took samples.
