Barbara Hesse-Bukowska Life

Barbara Hesse-Bukowska (born in Lódz on February 1930) was a Polish pianist.

Her family had a long tradition of music, as her father was a violinist and conductor, her mother was a pianist and tutor, and her grandfather was a piano tuner.

Her mother was her first teacher.

Maria Glinska-Wasowska, Czeslaw Aniolkiewicz and, later in life, were among her new teachers.

Education and achievements

Hesse-Bukowska was born in ód. In June 1949, she graduated from Warsaw's State Higher School of Music. She competed in the first postwar edition of the IV International Chopin Piano Competition in the same year and took home the first prize. She returned to Paris five years ago, where she continued her studies with Arthur Rubinstein. She then embarked on an international concert career, which she combined with teaching at the Wroclaw Higher School of Music. Hesse-Bukowska became a professor at the Fryderyk Chopin Music Academy in 1972.

The Zoty Krzyzuki (Cross of Merit; 1955) and the Order Sztandaru Pracy (Order of the Banner of Work) 2nd class (1959) and 1st class (1984). She was named the Harriet Cohen Foundation's Piano Medal outside of Poland in 1962.
