As French midfielder Baptiste Santamaria opened the scoring with a long-range kick from 35 yards out, the French team leapt ahead in the first ten minutes. Despite being 1-0 down, the Hammers fought back, and Soucek levelled the scoring thanks to a header from a free kick.
