According to documents obtained by the department of Defense, EHA has been granted at least eight grants totaling more than $32 million since 2017 for studies involving coronaviruses, Ebola, and MERS.

Officials in the United States are quietly closing down a taxpayer-funded $125 million program to look for new viruses due to fears that it will cause another pandemic. DEEP VZN, which stands for deep vision, was founded in October 2021 with the intention of finding and investigating novel pathogens in wildlife in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Although the aim was supposed to prevent human outbreaks and pandemics, critics, including Biden administration officials, were concerned that the virus hunting could'catastrophic risks' could have posed the same way.
