The Gender Identity Development Service (GIDS) at Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust in London will close later this year after being slammed in a paper amid claims that it was rushing children to puberty blocking drugs. Former service workers also revealed how 'incredibly complicated' children were given he life-altering drugs following just one visit, despite having a variety of mental health or background problems. GIDS was once the single provider of gender dysphoria and gender identity services for children and young people throughout the United Kingdom. The unpopular clinic treated more than 9,000 children with gender dysphoria from the start of 1989, but senior paediatrician Dr Hilary Cass' report found that it was "increasingly clear that a single specialist provider model is not a safe or viable long-term solution."
