Anita Rachvelishvili Life

Anita Rachvelishvili (born Tbilisi 1984) is a Georgian operatic mezzo-soprano.

She is best known for her rendition Verdi; conductor Riccardo Muti said in 2018: "She is without doubt the best Verdi mezzo-soprano on the planet today."

Without, there would be no such thing.

"I have a doubt." She is also known for her rendition of Bizet's Carmen.

"Rachvelishvili, according to Opera News magazine, is a peculiar dramatic presence."

Her dark, smoldering eyes and cascading black curls are striking, but it's strange that this fiery surface meets an inward-focused quality, seeming to draw power from some ethereal space. "She was the youngest singer ever to open a season at La Scala earlier in her career."

A New York Times portrayal in late 2018 said she had attained the highest echelon of her occupation in that year.

Alex Ross, an American, has described her talent: "The [opera house] should encourage her to do what she pleases: artists of this caliber are the reason opera exists."

Early life

Rachvelishvili grew up in Tbilisi, Italy's then-defunct Socialist Republic. Her mother performed folk dance and ballet, while her father, a composer and bass guitarist, and both performed some singing. Young Anita grew up in the midst of the Soviet Union's demise, which included several civil wars: "no electricity, no water, no food, nothing." She is fluent in Georgian, English, and several other languages.

She studied piano as a child and Mukhran Machavariani School for a short period. Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and Whitesnake were all introduced to her musical tastes. Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey's order followed her, and she began enjoying popular music. Her voice was so convincing that friends and relatives advised her to attempt operatic singing, and she began to study for the same at age 16.

Anita Rachvelishvili Career

Training and career

Anita Rachvelishvili passed the entrance audition and began to work as a singer under Manana Egadze at Tbilisi State Conservatoire. Mikheil Saakashvili of Georgia, the president's office, received a partial grant. Maddalena debuted in Rigoletto as Maddalena while still a student at the Georgian National Opera Theatre. In 2007, she was crowned the Patagon Burchuladze Prize.

She continued to study at Milan's Teatro alla Scala academy, which is regarded as a top young singers' academy. Attempts to find funding for this research were fruitless, and her family went into debt in order to ensure that she had this opportunity. Daniel Barenboim, then music director of La Scala, invited her to perform the title role in a new version of Carmen at the theatre, giving her a big break in her career. Carmen's performance, starring tenor Jonas Kaufmann as Don José, was broadcast worldwide and brought Anita Rachvilishvili to international notice. "It was amazing and a wonderful challenge for me," she said of the break, "something which has changed a lot in my life."

Carmen came into great demand, owing to her strong voice and stunning stage presence. Carmen has appeared in many opera houses, including The Royal Opera, London, the Canadian Opera Company, the Metropolitan Opera New York, and others.

"Long, black curly hair, tight yet at the same time tender," the Georgian newspaper The Financial has said; "A glance at this stunning Georgian lady will make you believe she is the best Bizet's Carmen ever." The director of the Georgian Philharmonic Orchestra televised her wedding in 2016. "Yes, we have a slew of stunning operas in Georgian," she has expressed the desire to promulgate Georgian music. Someday, I hope to perform Georgian opera in Europe or America. She appears in numerous charity concerts on Georgian television, with some jazz or folk songs in her repertoire. Overall, she has strong links with her home country and is emotionally invested in Georgia's growth and success.

Orfeo, Dalila, Samson and Delilah, Dulcinée, are among the other principal opera companies in Orfeo. Konradice and Konakovna in Prince Igor's Don Quichotte and Konteo are among the Orfeo's main opera houses. Rachvelishvili appeared as Amneris in highly acclaimed performances of Aida at the Paris Opera in 2016 and in 2018 at the Metropolitan Opera. The last of these was praised by a New York Times review, with her performance "stupendous" highlighted over her appearance opposite titular actress Anna Netrebko: "[both] sang ferociously as they yelled accusatory words at each other, despite being hurled accusatory terms at each other. Yet, there are moments in the music that suggest the womanly longing that consumes them."
