Anika Rose Moa (born 21 May 1980) is a New Zealand recording artist and television host.
Thinking Room, her first album, was released in 2001, aged 21 after signing to Atlantic Records in the United States.

Early life
Anika Moa was born in 1980 in the Auckland suburb of Papakura. She grew up in Christchurch and attended Hornby High School. Tia's mother, Bernadette, is of English descent, and her father Tia, who died in 2007, was Mori (Ngpuhi, Te Aupuri). Bernadette, a member of a band who appeared three days a week, raised Moa and her siblings. At 13 years old, Moa gave Tia a guitar and advised her to study songwriting on it. During secondary school, she performed in orchestras, choirs, and rock bands.
Music career
At the 1998 New Zealand Smokefreerockquest high school music competition, Moa received an award for Most Promising Female Musician and a music school scholarship. She signed a record contract with Warner Music in New Zealand and Atlantic Records in New York after recording a demo tape. With Victor Van Vugt's production, she and her mother travelled to New York to record her first album, Thinking Room (September 2001). "Youthful" was her lead single when it first appeared in July 2001, and it debuted at No. 1 in the United States. 5 on the New Zealand Singles Chart. Moa became homesick and uncomfortable with her manager's use of "superficial" imagery to sell her. She returned to Auckland in 2002.
Stolen Hill, her second album, was released on August 1, 2005, she characterized the album as "more sparse" and true to herself than her first album. "In the Morning" on one track refers to her abortion in 2000. The album was certified gold. In October of that year, she toured New Zealand. In 2005, Moa was one of many New Zealand musicians to perform on "Anchor Me," which commemorated the Rainbow Warrior's twentieth anniversary.
In October 2007, Moa released In Swings The Tide, her third studio album, which went platinum and received a number of rave reviews. For the first time, she was credited with the album's production alone. Moa was named as one of the "Top ten Kiwi music hits of the past ten years" by the New Zealand Herald in 2009.
In 2007, Moa came out as openly lesbian. In February 2010, she entered into a civil union with Australian burlesque dancer Azaria Universe (Angela Fyfe). Moa's fourth album, Love in Motion (March 2010, which debuted at number four), was inspired by her partner. In the ensuing year, Fyfe became pregnant with twins.
She undertook her album on a national tour from October to December 2010. SJD and Bic Runga, two other New Zealand solo artists, have collaborated with Moa.
