ALEXANDRA SHULMAN'S NOTEBOOK: A creepy call that brought home dread of the abused

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 21, 2024
It was about 11pm, just before I got into bed, that I heard a ping from my phone. I assumed it was a text from BA cancelling my flight the next day, but it was an answerphone message with the caller ID coming up 'Unknown'. When I listened, I heard a deep, Northern-accented voice saying slowly and deliberately: 'You haven't got back to me. It's been four weeks. I saw you in that shop that one time. Get back to me NOW!' It was extremely unpleasant. Of course I didn't want to speak with this man and, in any case, with his number withheld, it was impossible to return the call.

How Taylor Swift's British ex Joe Alwyn kept dignified silence during six-year relationship - as singer hints he was a cheat in her new album The Tortured Poets Department

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 19, 2024
The Tunbridge Wells-born actor admitted he understood the interest in their relationship - but always made it clear that the only person he would ever discuss it with was Taylor herself. 'People on the street wouldn't tell strangers about their personal lives, so why should I', the star of The Favourite and Boy Erased said before they split up last year. But it appears Ms Swift hasn't held back herself with her new record The Tortured Poets Department, which fans believe is the story of their break-up, her brief rebound dalliance with rockstar Matt Healy and meeting new love Travis Kelce . It contains stinging lyrics fans believe suggest Joe was unfaithful when she believed they would marry and have children together. And even its title is being viewed as an attack on her ex-boyfriend and muse, because it is so similar to the name of a WhatsApp group Joe famously shares with close friends and fellow actors Paul Mescal and Andrew Scott called The Tortured Man Club.

JENNI MURRAY: Rishi's right - my first fag at 13 had me hooked for 60 years

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 17, 2024
I pictured myself as the elegant Bette Davies, always photographed with a cigarette in her hand, writes Jenni Murray. In the early Sixties, it meant becoming one of the cool crowd at school; hiding behind the bike sheds with cigarettes stolen from the packets of the adults we wanted to emulate. By the age of 16, we were old enough to buy them ourselves. And so began a 60-year addiction that at my worst had me smoking more than 20 cigarettes a day.

African men don't have sexual intercourse a certain number of times a month,' she said, it doesn't matter who it is, they're sick.'
