Diet and exercise really do work, according to the results of an NHS weight loss programme. The online tool used by thousands of patients is helping dieters shed an average of 8.5lbs, a study shows. According to the NHS, four million Brits are living with the'silent killer' of high blood pressure

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 11, 2024
Undiagnosed high blood pressure has no signs, but if left untreated, it can lead to fatal heart attacks, strokes, kidney disease, and vascular dementia. An estimated 36% of adults are affected by the condition, but only three in ten of these are undiagnosed. The NHS also launched a campaign to find the'missing millions,' announcing that additional 2.5 million blood pressure checks will be conducted in community pharmacies this year and next. People aged 40 and over are being encouraged to take the free test, which is fast and requires no advance reservation. Factors that may raise the risk of high blood pressure are: being over the age of 65, overweight, not getting enough exercise, drinking too much alcohol or coffee, eating too much salt, anxiety, and smoking are all examples.

Are you sure that's the tooth?Tory MP Andrea Leadsom - the minister for children's health - is ribbed for claiming that babies have teeth 18 months before they are born

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 10, 2024
Andrea Leadsom, a Tory minister, has been chastised for saying that babies have teeth 18 months before they are born. Dame Andrea bizarrely suggested that infants could have molars for nine months before they were even born in a House of Commons debate on NHS dentistry. Labour sniped that the health minister's remarks prompted why Prime Minister Rishi Sunak was keen to expand the study of maths among Britons. As she opposed Labour's efforts to include monitored toothbrushing for young children in schools, Dame Andrea later revealed she had'misspoken'. "The Opposition's motion,' she told MPs, involves supervised toothbrushing from three to five years olds.' I'm not sure if they are aware of this, but we do know we have teeth from before we're born.' Children should not get their hands supervised toothbrush until they are three years old,' he said.

Veg out!Britons are more likely to eat their five-a-day compared to EVERY other country in the world

www.dailymail.co.uk, December 31, 2023
With a third of adults eating five or more portions a day, Britain has the world's highest fruit and vegetable intake rate. Some 33% achieve the dietary target, which has been shown to reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke, and certain types of cancer. The figure places the United Kingdom at the top of the global league table for fruit and veg intake, equal to the Republic of Ireland, and South Korea and Israel, which are both on 32 percent.

Under Labour, vaping could be made prescription-only: Under Labour's ardent attempts to discourage children from being addicted to the 'gateway drug'

www.dailymail.co.uk, December 6, 2023
To reduce the rise of vaping in British children, shadow health Minister Wes Streeting said the party was considering enforcing a similar ban in Australia. Despite the fact that the products are only available to over-18s, statistics shows that nearly one in ten children in England uses the machines, with a fifth trying a vaping this year. However, Labour's plan, according to analysts, could result in the removal of the only health benefit vaping has as a result of smoking cessation and the use of more harmful tobacco by smokers. Mr Streeting's remarks come as the Conservatives are fighting child-vaping for the first time. Ministers are planning to limit child-friendly flavors and marketing, as well as a crackdown on the disposable products that youngsters love. Mr Streeting accused "Big Tobacco" and the vaping industry of 'crying crocodile tears' about the child vaping crisis in his remarks. As an offering of a cessation aid that is only available to those trying to quit, he said the vaping industry should be forced to return to its roots. Mr Streeting was in Australia recently, where the devices have been operated under a similar prescription-only regime since 2021.

'I thought I was going to die': MP Theo Clarke breaks down in tears in the Commons as she talks for the first time about 'terrifying' childbirth ordeal that nearly killed her, in debate about post-natal care

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 19, 2023
After she bled heavily during a strenuous 40-hour labour last year, Conservative Theo Clarke became extremely emotional as she recovered from being rushed into surgery. Since giving birth to Arabella at the Royal Stoke University Hospital in August 2022, she had to go back to the hospital. She began a debate about 'birth trauma,' and said it was "probably the most personal speech' she'd make in Parliament. She lauded her surgeon and midwives at the hospital but then slammed the nurses'''unacceptable' behavior when she pleaded for assistance.

In the face of backlash against inflation response, Bank of England staff discovered they were WFH three days a week

www.dailymail.co.uk, July 7, 2023
The Bank of England has revealed that as part of its 'hybrid' working policies, staff will only have to come into the office two days a week. The Bank said in its annual survey that there was a'minimum expectation' for workers to spend 40% of their time on site for a month. For those who work a five-day week, this is the equivalent to two days a week. The revelation comes at a time when the Bank is under considerable strain because its 'too little, too late' response to the cost-of-living crisis. The Bank is supposed to establish monetary policy to meet the government's target of keeping inflation at two percent but the rate is now at 8.7 percent. Critics also chastised Threadneedle Street for failing to forecast the increase and stubbornness of inflation in the United Kingdom. They have also been accused of being too late to react to the threat of rising prices. Mortgage holders are being battered by the Bank's regular increase in interest rates, which is forcing the bank to bring inflation under control.

MPs are marginally defeated when it was proposed that we've banned'social gender transitioning' in schools

www.dailymail.co.uk, June 27, 2023
Despite being backed by 25 Tory MPs, a bid to prohibit the promotion or discussion of gender transition in schools in the House of Commons was defeated today. Andrew Bridgen, a Reclaim Party MP who was booted out of the Conservative Party for comparing Covid vaccines to the Holocaust, was dissatisfied with his call for new legislation. He had planned to introduce a bill on gender and parental rights in schools via 10-minute rule motion. Mr Bridgen, who has been dubbed a "conspiracy theorist," by critics, says his proposed bill would'prohibit the promotion of social transition practices in schools.' Schools will also have to notify parents "if their child has expressed an intention to pursue or has started a social transition," and give parents the ability to access information about sex education lessons in schools. However, a group of MPs was compelled to prevent the introduction of his controversial bill in a rare move. Sir Ben Bradshaw, the Labour Party's former prime minister, described Mr Bridgen's plans as "despicable." MPs voted by 40 votes to 34, a majority of six, to oppose a bill that was never introduced.

Senior Tories turn on the Bank of England over rates crisis

www.dailymail.co.uk, June 21, 2023
Last night, senior Tories and economists poured on the Bank of England (pictured is its governor, Andrew Bailey) as it prepares to heap more misery on homeowners. For the 13th time in a row, millions of mortgage holders are preparing for the change of half a percentage point. Despite the punishing rate increases, inflation stood at 8.7% in May. Andrea Leadsom, a Tory former Treasury Minister, accused the Bank of doing 'too little' to rein in soaring prices. The inflationary threat had been "misjudged," according to a senior advisor to Prime Minister Jeremy Hunt. Rishi Sunak's pledge to cut taxes this fall is now in jeopardy, and government sources have confirmed that the plan to cut taxes this fall is also in jeopardy. The Prime Minister will tell us today that if we'hold our nerves, the economic pain will eventually lead to success.'

Despite being sentenced in absentia in his homeland, he continued to obtain citizenship under the pseudonym and had three children. In 2009, authorities finally caught and arrested Murtati to serve his 11-year term. However, he was released after just six years and returned to Britain, where it appears he simply renewed his old British passport.

www.dailymail.co.uk, May 28, 2023
During the interview, the politician spoke about why she carried two fluffy slippers to the Abbey and why she's content being single. Following a one-year marriage, the 50-year-old, who never remarried after splitting from husband Paul Murray in 2000, said she is content being single. She says she'feels complete" without a partner, and that although she has no need for 'another half,' she would not be politically opposed to meeting someone. 'It's, of course, a mystery why a workaholic with no social life and four cats is not a huge success,' Joking said. www.dailymail.co.uk, May 11, 2023
Ministers should'very carefully consider' the consequences of the government's withdrawal, joining the growing call for tax-free shopping for overseas visitors. Her South Northamptonshire constituency is just down the road from Bicester Village, which has been calling for tax-free shopping to be restored.

www.dailymail.co.uk, May 7, 2023
The Sword of State was carried by the House of Commons and Lord President of the Council before unveiling the Sword of Offering to King Charles in Westminster Abbey. Ms Mordaunt, 50, who had been praised by several for her poise, was on the center stage after losing twice in the Tory leadership competitions last year. She has progressed from appearing on ITV's dive show Splash!, being named Britain's'sexist MP' and serving as a Royal Navy reservist. Ms Mordaunt presided over the Accession Council meeting in which Charles was officially proclaimed King after the death of Queen Elizabeth II last September. However, there has been controversies as well as her position on trans rights and a 2014 Commons speech in which she proclaimed 'c**k' after a bet with navy colleagues.

How hard is mortgage increases on YOUR neighborhood?

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 10, 2023
According to a recent report, Conservative-controlled seats in 'Blue Wall' areas are likely to be among the hardest affected by the rise in mortgage rates. The constituency of Tory former Cabinet Minister Andrea Leadsom has the largest number of mortgage borrowers in England and Wales, with South Northamptonshire. Nearly 40% (20,420) of the 51,122 households in South Northamptonshire are owned with a mortgage or loan. Wokingham, which is run by senior Conservative Sir John Redwood, is the constituency with the next highest percentage of households owned by a mortgage or loan. This is followed by Nadine Dorries' Mid Bedfordshire seat, Louie French's Old Bexley and Sidcup seats, and Gareth Johnson's Dartford constituency. Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab's Esher and Walton constituency has the tenth-largest proportion of households owned by a mortgage or loan (38 percent). Surrey Heath's seat, according to Levelling Up Secretary Michael Gove, is the 15th in the nation. Mr Raab's seat - one of those traditionally Tory-controlled constituencies in southern England - is a top target for the Liberal Democrats as they seek to make further inroads into conservative heartlands at the next election. 48 of the top 50 constituencies with the highest percentage of households owned by a mortgage or loan are held by the Conservatives, and many are in traditionally Tory-voting commuter areas.

This afternoon, Penny Mordaunt became the first Tory leadership candidate to officially launch a campaign to replace Liz Truss as Prime Minister. On Twitter, the House of Commons leader, who also ran for the presidency this summer, declared her candidacy as she promised a 'fresh start.' As news of the Queen's declining health care epidemic, HENRY DEEDES monitors the Commons

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 8, 2022
HENRY DEEDES: The House of Commons at its liveliest is a merciless cockpit brimming with excitement and rambunctious discussion. But if it fades without warning into sombre eeriness, it means something dangerous is afoot. It happened right after midday, not long after Nadhim Zahawi's dynamic form came striding into the chamber, with a scrawl dangling from his fingers. MPs were debating the government's proposals to combat soaring energy bills. The temperatures had been high. However, the Duchy of Lancaster's new Chancellor had no interest in the proceedings. On the frontbench, he spoke straight for the Prime Minister. He came to speak with her and his first words sent her bolt upright, as if she'd been jolted with a high-volt cattle prod.

DAN HODGES: This divisive contest has served Liz Truss - and the nation - well

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 3, 2022
Liz Truss, if you're sick of Tory's leadership race, would suggest that you think you're sick of the Tory leadership race. An ally told me, 'She wanted it to end weeks ago.' She's eager to get into Downing Street and start working.' Any of Truss' allies point to Rishi Sunak for needlessly dragging out a contest in which he had effectively become a bystander. However, the bulk of their rage is directed at 1922 Committee Chairman Graham Brady, who compiled the lengthy and exhausting timeline.

STEPHEN GLOVER: Rishi, not Rishi, let us go. We need a working Prime Minister, and we need her right now

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 10, 2022
GLOVER: People may disagree on the severity of the country's current challenges, but it is generally accepted that they are near to the end of the scale marked 'calamity.' Almost every day, there are new troubling costs of living. And yet, we don't have a government as the word is normally understood. Boris Johnson has been kicked out of work, but he does not appear in No. 10 for the time being. Nadhim Zahawi, the recently installed Chancellor, will be in office until a new Prime Minister has been chosen, according to no one. However, the process will not be complete until September 5 - about another four weeks in this hot, seemingly endless summer.
