André Robert Breton (18 February 1896 – September 26, 1966) was a French writer, poet, and anti-fascist.

Surrealist chief Theorist and chief apologist, he is best known as the co-founder, speaker, principal theorist, and chief apologist.

His books include the first Surrealist manifesto (Manifestation du surrealism) of 1924, in which he referred to surrealism as "absolutely psychic automatism."
