Amy Steel Pulitzer (née Steel; born May 3, 1960) is an American actress and psychologist.

She began her career as a guest on a number of television soap operas.

Steel came to fame when she was selected to appear in Steve Miner's slasher-horror film on Friday, the 13th Part 2 (1981).

Steel was asked by Miner to reprise her role as Ginny in the 1982 3D film, but she turned down the invitation because she was afraid of being typecast. She was cast as a central supporting character in Fred Walton's mystery film April Fool's Day (1986), as a result of her involvement in the Friday the 13th franchise.

Steel continued to appear in Melvin Frank's comedy film Walk Like a Man (1987), which was David Greene's remake What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? (1991), and Tales of Poe (2014) by Bart Mastronardi and Alan Rowe Kelly produced anthology horror film.

Steel has extensive television experience, appearing on documentaries such as Family Ties (1982), Quantum Leap (1990), and China Beach (1991).

She resigned from acting and began a career as a psychologist in the early 2000s.

Steel made her theatrical debut in Manuel Summers' comedy film Fat Chance (1981), in which she portrayed Allison's supporting role. Steel obtained Ginny Field's lead role in Steve Miner's slasher film Friday the 13th (1980). She received the role after an audition and went on to become one of her most well-known performances. Steel had two days of shooting during the daytime and the majority at night. The actress was physically and mentally exhausting to the point of saying, "I wish I never have to do another horror film the rest of my life." At the box office, the film earned over $21 million ($71 million inflated). Steel refused a sequel due to her agent's continued demand for higher-budgeted roles and being physically exhausted from the second film. Kit in Fred Walton's hybrid black comedy mystery slasher film April Fool's Day (1986), which she described as a different shooting experience than Friday. Penny Steel appeared in Melvin Frank's comedy Walk Like a Man (1987), opposite Howie Mandel. The film's gross profit was $460k ($1 million).

Steel made her first acting appearance in 11 years in Tales of Poe, anthology horror film. Adrienne King and Caroline Williams appeared alongside Adrienne King and Caroline Williams in "British Empire." Steel appeared in 2021 in the medium-length horror film Jason Rising: Dr. Ginny Field — in a voice role cameo.

Steel began her career as Trudy Wilson on CBS soap opera Guiding Light (1980-191) and Peggy Warner on All My Children in 1980. Steel appeared on television shows Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1982), as Allison Freleng, Family Ties (1982) as Kathy Monahan, The A-Team (1983), before being cast as Pam Elliott in the sci-fi film The Powers of Matthew alongside Peter Barton. The series lasted until 1983. She was also featured in the television films Women of San Quentin (1983) as Liz Larson and First Steps (1985) as Nan Davis. Steel portrayed Sharon on the short lived television series For Love and Honor from 1983 to 1984.

Lisa Grant appeared in Stir Crazy as Lisa Grant in 1985. Steel was cast in the television thriller film The Red Spider in the following year. Steel played a guest character in Jake and the Fatman in 1987 and 1989. Before being cast as Connie in the television film What Ever Happened to Baby Jane, a sequel to the 1962 film of the same name, Steel guest appeared on Father Dowling Mysteries and Quantum Leap. She appeared on China Beach and Walter & Emily the same year. Steel appeared in Perry Mason's "The Case of the Reckless Romeo" in 1992. She appeared in Play Nice, the horror film from the year before.

Before being cast in the television films A Taste for Justice and The Innocent, a Steel guest appeared on Viper, Home Improvement, and Diagnosis: Murder. She appeared in the television series The Commish and the television film Damaged and Deceived in 1995. She appeared on American Gothic and Chicago Hope in 1996. In an episode of Millennium, she portrayed Dr. Liz Michaels the following year. Steel appeared in the films Valerie Flake and Tycus in 1999. In a guest appearance on JAG this year, she portrayed Commander Samantha Woodling.

In the television film A Time to Remember, Claire Goodman Isenberg was cast as Claire Goodman Isenberg in 2003. Steel took a long break from acting and became a psychotherapist after this work.
