Amanda Knox faces a new trial for slander in Italy tomorrow eight years after judge in Italy's highest court threw out her conviction for murdering her student roommate Meredith Kercher in 2007

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 9, 2024
Amanda Knox is facing a new trial for slander in Italy tomorrow, eight years after a judge in Italy's highest court threw out her conviction for murdering her roommate Meredith Kercher in 2007. Despite a definitive ruling by Italy's Cassation Court in 2015 that Knox and her then-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito did not commit the crime , doubts about the mom-of-two's role in the murder still persist in Italy. This is mainly due to the slander conviction for wrongly accusing Congolese bar owner Patrick Lumumba in the murder, which was confirmed by the court almost a decade ago. That conviction was dismissed last November based on a European Court of Human Rights ruling that found Knox´s rights had been violated in a long night of questioning without a lawyer and official translator. But Knox still remains unsure whether a not guilty verdict in the new trial, which is set to begin on Wednesday in Florence, will be enough to convince her detractors of her innocence.
