The "Barbie" Casting Director Reveals 3 Actors Who Regretfully Turned Down Ken Roles

www.popsugar.co.uk, July 25, 2023
Greta Gerwig's Barbie film is overflowing with Ken-ergy, thanks in large part to its star-studded cast, which includes Ryan Gosling, Simu Liu, and Kingsley Ben-Adir as various Kens. Despite a handful of actors' wishes of portraying Barbie's "long-distance, low-commitment, casual" boyfriend on film, casting director Allison Jones revealed the names of three actors who, sadly, had to decline supporting roles as Ken in the film. Due to COVID-19 restraints, the cast and crew were required to spend three months in London, where a substantial portion of the film was shot. In the end, the filming process brought about scheduling conflicts that have pushed Bowen Yang, Dan Levy, and Ben Platt out of contention for the title of Ken. "They weren't kidding, they were too bummed they couldn't do it," Jones said.
