DOMINIC LAWSON: Our thoughts shift to food and drink as the holiday season heats up. The more we get outside, the more these cheer us up, like a bit of internal winter warmer. And yet, there is a nagging inner voice, supplemented by the diet industry and its assassinated proselytizers, advising us that we should avoid overdoing it, not to overdo it, or even that we'll have to pay for our seasonal indulgences, which is not in currency but in our life expectancy. Queensland Agriculture Minister Mark Furner convened an emergency meeting of the volatile dog task force on Wednesday, announcing several new fines for pet owners. Mr Furner has yet to announce the fines, but he did agree to raise the current fine, which is $42,000. He also confirmed that prison time would be considered, referring to legislation in NSW and Victoria.
