Alexander Nevzorov Career

Early life and career

Alexander Nevzorov was born in Leningrad on August 3rd 1958. In 1985, he began working for Leningrad's television. He hosted the program 600 Seconds on the Leningrad TV channel from 1987 to 1993, broadcasting then all over the Soviet Union. During a meeting with someone who pretended to have sensitive information to offer on December 12, 1990, he was shot and wounded. His program was taken off the air twice in late 1991 and then gradually lost its traction. Nevzorov supported the State Committee on the State of Emergency, the coup's organ. Nevzorov founded the Nashi movement (not to be confused with the later pro-Putin youth movement of the same name). In the aftermath of Yeltsin's victory in his match against the Russian Supreme Soviet (Nevzorov had endorsed the anti-Yeltsin campaign), the show was eventually ended (nevzorov had supported the anti-Yeltsin campaign).

Nevzorov served as a reporter in the Yugoslav Wars and the Transnistria War in 1992-1993.

Nevzorov was elected deputy in the Russian Federation's State Duma for the first time in 1993, and after that was re-elected as an independent deputy three times until the 2007 election, which was abolished.

During Vladimir Yakovlev's tenure as the Governor (mayor) of Saint Petersburg, he served as an adviser on film, television, and radio.

Nevzorov, a vocal promoter of the First Chechen War in 1994, was a pioneer of the First Chechen War. In 1997, he wrote and directed the TV film Chistilishche ("Purgatory") about the Chechen war, co-produced with Boris Berezovsky and released in March 1998. His views changed as the Chechen War progressed, and he became skeptical of Russian imperialism. He regretted his previous nationalist positions and revealed in 2015 that he had a Nashi connection.

Nevzorov worked with the ORT TV channel in 1999 and was often seen as a political commentator on Sergey Dorenko's Saturday night news show.

Nevzorov, who campaigned for Vladimir Putin in 2012, was his elected representative during his presidential campaign and was his deputy. However, Nevzorov protested Crimea's Russian annexation in 2014.

The Russian Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster was honoured by Nevzorov in 2017 for inciting atheism.

Nevzorov predicted that a possible Russian invasion of Ukraine would result in tragedy and humiliation for Russia, according to a YouTube video posted on April 11, 2021. He also predicted a fierce Ukrainian resistance.

Nevzorov was charged with "false information" in Russia on March 22nd, 2022, after he revealed that Russian forces shelled a maternity hospital in Mariupol. He could face up to 15 years in prison under a new bill passed on March 4th. Vladimir Putin's "regime is not going to spare anyone," Nevzorov said, and that any attempts to understand the criminal war [in Ukraine] will result in prison." On social media, Nevzorov's wife Lidia announced that her husband was in Israel.

Nevzorov was among the list of foreign agents on the list on April 22, 2022.

Nevzorov and his partner Lidia applied for Ukrainian citizenship in June 2022 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. Nevzorov and his wife received Ukrainian citizenship, according to Nevzorov and the State Migration Service of Ukraine on June 3rd. Nevzorov did not have citizenship as of today, but that he had only applied for it on June 6, 2016, according to Oleksiy Danilov, the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.
