Fans demand change to Young Player of the Season rules, with Alexander Isak turning 25 this year among other 'seasoned pros' nominated for the prize

www.dailymail.co.uk, May 9, 2024
Fans have reacted with fury to the Premier League's Young Player of the Season shortlist, as half the candidates overlap with the main prize. Supporters will help to vote for the winner of the Young Player of the Season, from eight nominees who were aged 23 or younger at the start of the 2023-24 campaign, and these will be combined with the opinions of a panel of football experts. But the inclusion of Newcastle's Alexander Isak, who turns 25 in September, and Man City's Phil Foden, who won the prize in 2021 and 2022, have led to ire from fans on social media, who think the rules need changing.

Burnley need a miracle to avoid a quick return to the Championship after 4-1 home defeat by Newcastle, writes RICHARD TANNER

www.dailymail.co.uk, May 4, 2024
RICHARD TANNER AT TURF MOOR: Alexander Isak became the first Newcastle player since Alan Shearer in 2003-04 to score 20 Premier League goals in a season as Eddie Howe's team stepped up their bid for another season of European football - while pushing Burnley closer to the drop. Isak's landmark goal - Newcastle's fourth in an impressive victory - came moments after he had a tame penalty saved by Ari Muric. But the Swede quickly amends with a cool close range finish to add to first half goals from Callum Wilson, Sean Longstaff and Bruno Guimaraes as the Geordies chalked up their fifth win in seven games to leapfrog Manchester United into sixth place.

If Bruno Guimaraes is £100m then Alexander Isak would command more as Newcastle thump a Sheffield United 5-1 side - who surrendered in the face of relegation, writes CRAIG HOPE

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 27, 2024
NEWCASTLE 5-1 SHEFFIELD UNITED - CRAIG HOPE AT ST JAMES' PARK: Sheffield United are relegated, and the league table would have you believe it was they who had suffered the points deduction. Not even the financial mismanagement of their rivals could save them after a season in which the white flag was waved long ago. They brought it with them to St James' Park, too. Only three teams in Premier League history have finished with less than the 16 points they have, and with three matches to go you cannot see them adding to their tally. Not after a game in which they set out with a fighting spirit, only to emerge for the second half with that flag.

THREE Liverpool stars are named among the Premier League's most wasteful finishers this season - but who else has lacked killer instinct?

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 26, 2024
The Premier League's most wasteful players this season have been revealed, with three Liverpool stars ranking inside the top-ten footballers to have missed the most big chances during the 2023-24 campaign. The Reds have notably struggled to find the back of the net of late - and their scoring woes has been costly, so much so that Liverpool have seemingly dropped out of the title race following their 2-0 defeat by Everton on Wednesday night.  'I don't know [if we're still in the race],' Klopp admitted after the Merseyside derby. 'I can only apologise to the people. Everybody who is with us knows how hard this is for us as well, but I know for other people it's especially hard. So we should have done better but we didn't and that's why we lost.'

Jean-Philippe Mateta left £100m-rated Alexander Isak in the shade as the striker ran riot through heart of Newcastle's backline, writes CRAIG HOPE as Crystal Palace secure Premier League safety

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 24, 2024
CRAIG HOPE AT SELHURST PARK: Even the military horses who caused panic when bolting through the streets of London would have turned back if confronted by Jean-Philippe Mateta.  Here, it was the turn of Newcastle's defenders to be spooked, and it was the Crystal Palace match-winner who alarmed them so. Mateta had matched Alexander Isak for goals of late, five since the start of last month. He, however, has not been linked with £100million moves to Arsenal.

Arsenal and Man City 'set to fight for the signing of £100m-rated Newcastle star Bruno Guimaraes' - as the Magpies face losing key players this summer to comply with financial rules

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 23, 2024
Arsenal and Manchester City are reportedly set to fight for the signing of Newcastle star Bruno Guimaraes this summer. The Brazilian is believed to have a release clause in the region of £100million, though interested clubs may strike a deal for a lower fee. Magpies chief executive Darren Eales revealed earlier this year that the club may be forced to sell one of their key players in order to comply with Premier league profit and sustainability rules.

Man United target names the Red Devils as a club he'd love to play for, despite snubbing Erik ten Hag's advances for TWO YEARS... with Premier League rivals also on his list

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 19, 2024
A Manchester United transfer target has named the club as a foreign side he would love to play for some day, despite turning down their advances for two years. Erik ten Hag's Man United have struggled in the Premier League this season, and an early exit from the Champions League means that there will be high expectations for improvement in the summer.   Certain attacking options are set to depart Old Trafford in the summer, and it means that the club might return to previous targets to complete their squad - if they are finally willing to make the jump to the Premier League.

Arsenal identify THREE positions to strengthen in the summer in wake of Champions League exit, with significant funds to be made available for transfers

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 18, 2024
The Gunners crashed out of the Champions League against Bayern Munich on Wednesday night but are already planning to revamp their team ahead of next season as they look to crack the big time. Arsenal will release significant funds this summer, with their spending on incomings to be supplemented by a number of exits.

Cole Palmer enjoys a perfect evening, Alexander Isak punished 'Rolls Royce' Micky van de Ven, and Ollie Watkins could fire Aston Villa into the Champions League... but who takes top spot in our POWER RANKINGS?

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 17, 2024
The Premier League was dealt it's first big end-of-season change at the top of the table as Manchester City claimed a vital victory to establish a two-point lead over chasing Arsenal and Liverpool. Meanwhile the situation at the bottom of the division remains as lively as ever with Nottingham Forest grabbing a single point against Wolves to stay a point above the relegation zone. But who tops Mail Sport's POWER RANKINGS on the back of another action-packed round of fixtures? Who had a quiet week, and who rose to the occasion?

Cole Palmer and Erling Haaland lead the way, but Ollie Watkins is vastly outperforming his xG and Alexander Isak has the best minutes per goal ratio... so who WILL win the Premier League Golden Boot?

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 16, 2024
As the Premier League enters its final stage, we are all set for a dramatic end to the season. The 2023-24 campaign has treated us to a three-way title race, an enthralling battle to avoid the drop and a see-saw struggle between Aston Villa and Tottenham to qualify for the Champions League. We're also approaching the time for individual accolades, with the likes of Rodri, Phil Foden, Declan Rice and Cole Palmer among those in the running for the esteemed PFA Player of the Year award.

Woman, 42, among four Croatians charged with burglary after gang broke into Newcastle United star Alexander Isak's mansion to steal cash and his car

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 15, 2024
A woman is among four Croatians charged with burglary after breaking into Newcastle United star Alexander Isak's mansion. Jela Jovanvic and three men allegedly entered the Premier League footballer's mansion in Darras Hall, Newcastle, on Thursday, April 4  and stole a large sum of cash and his luxury car. The three men and one woman swiped the luxury sports car while the athlete was away from home, before abandoning it three miles away in the remote village of Dissington. Police believe the three men, Valentino Nikolov, 31, Giacomo Nikolov, 27, Charlie Jovanovic, 23 and the 42-year-old woman Jela Jovanvic embarked on a luxury crime spree as two more properties were also burgled. The group are accused of breaking into to another home on Woodlands Grove in Sunderland where designer clothes, jewellery and cash were stolen to the value of more than £100,000.

James Maddison endures chastening day on trip to club he could have joined... as Newcastle brutally sweep aside Tottenham to raise questions about Ange Postecoglou

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 14, 2024
CRAIG HOPE AT ST JAMES' PARK: James Maddison could have signed for Newcastle. There were multiple offers rejected in the summer of 2022 and, last year, their interest cooled when they were told the Leicester playmaker was hot on Tottenham. 'There's only one greedy b….' chorused the home fans here. That is not entirely fair. He was motivated by reasons beyond money. On Saturday, however, there was every reason to doubt his rationale. After all, those supporters only targeted Maddison because they wanted to see him in their colours. They aren't short of crowd favourites at St James' Park - Alexander Isak, Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon were outstanding in the 4-0 win - but Maddison has the skill and swagger they like.

Ange Postecoglou accuses Tottenham of lacking bravery during his side's dismal 4-0 defeat by Newcastle... as he slams Spurs for being 'nowhere near good enough' at St James' Park

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 13, 2024
Ange Postecoglou accused his Tottenham team of lacking bravery after they slumped to their heaviest defeat of his reign at the club. Alexander Isak netted twice for Newcastle, with Anthony Gordon and Fabian Schar also getting on the scoresheet, as sorry Spurs saw their top-four hopes rocked at St James' Park despite having 73 per cent of possession. 'It's nowhere near good enough,' admitted boss Postecoglou. 'I was concerned with all of it. There wasn't any part of our game that reached the levels that it needs to for us to be able to play the game on our terms. 'We allowed them to dictate the way the game was played. A lot of it was self-inflicted by us. We weren't brave on the ball. 'We have been really good this year at understanding that when we have the ball we can be a threat - but we shied away from that. We didn't wrestle control at any stage and we paid a price for that.'

After making the Premier League's fastest-ever player look like a tugboat, Newcastle must build their team around super Swede Alexander Isak, writes Craig Hope

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 13, 2024
CRAIG HOPE AT ST JAMES' PARK: Newcastle want to build their team around Alexander Isak, and one day they might just find Micky van de Ven buried amid the foundations. The Premier League's fastest-ever player was made to look like a tugboat by the home striker, whose speed of thought was too quick for the feet of the Tottenham defender, as rapid as they may be. There was only one of that pair worthy of comparison to Usain Bolt here. For while Isak wore spikes, Van de Ven was in roller skates. Rio Ferdinand likened him to a Rolls Royce before kick-off. The Peckham-raised pundit could well have used a Robin Reliant post game.

How Newcastle's 4-0 victory over Tottenham cost the club £28MILLION, as little known transfer clause is revealed after Magpies' stunning win over north London side

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 13, 2024
If Eddie Howe thought that Newcastle's 4-0 victory over Tottenham was the perfect afternoon for his side, he may want to think again after it was revealed the win triggered a transfer clause.  The Magpies ran riot against Ange Postecoglou's side as Alexander Isak, Anthony Gordon and Fabian Schar all struck to seal three points for the hosts.  The victory has helped put them in pole position for a place in next season's Europa League, after leapfrogging Man United, but it also appears to have come at a price.
