Fans have reacted with fury to the Premier League's Young Player of the Season shortlist, as half the candidates overlap with the main prize. Supporters will help to vote for the winner of the Young Player of the Season, from eight nominees who were aged 23 or younger at the start of the 2023-24 campaign, and these will be combined with the opinions of a panel of football experts. But the inclusion of Newcastle's Alexander Isak, who turns 25 in September, and Man City's Phil Foden, who won the prize in 2021 and 2022, have led to ire from fans on social media, who think the rules need changing.

A woman is among four Croatians charged with burglary after breaking into Newcastle United star Alexander Isak's mansion. Jela Jovanvic and three men allegedly entered the Premier League footballer's mansion in Darras Hall, Newcastle, on Thursday, April 4  and stole a large sum of cash and his luxury car. The three men and one woman swiped the luxury sports car while the athlete was away from home, before abandoning it three miles away in the remote village of Dissington. Police believe the three men, Valentino Nikolov, 31, Giacomo Nikolov, 27, Charlie Jovanovic, 23 and the 42-year-old woman Jela Jovanvic embarked on a luxury crime spree as two more properties were also burgled. The group are accused of breaking into to another home on Woodlands Grove in Sunderland where designer clothes, jewellery and cash were stolen to the value of more than £100,000.

CRAIG HOPE AT ST JAMES' PARK: James Maddison could have signed for Newcastle. There were multiple offers rejected in the summer of 2022 and, last year, their interest cooled when they were told the Leicester playmaker was hot on Tottenham. 'There's only one greedy b….' chorused the home fans here. That is not entirely fair. He was motivated by reasons beyond money. On Saturday, however, there was every reason to doubt his rationale. After all, those supporters only targeted Maddison because they wanted to see him in their colours. They aren't short of crowd favourites at St James' Park - Alexander Isak, Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon were outstanding in the 4-0 win - but Maddison has the skill and swagger they like.

Ange Postecoglou accused his Tottenham team of lacking bravery after they slumped to their heaviest defeat of his reign at the club. There was only one of that pair worthy of comparison to Usain Bolt here. For while Isak wore spikes, Van de Ven was in roller skates. Rio Ferdinand likened him to a Rolls Royce before kick-off. The Peckham-raised pundit could well have used a Robin Reliant post game.

If Eddie Howe thought that Newcastle's 4-0 victory over Tottenham was the perfect afternoon for his side, he may want to think again after it was revealed the win triggered a transfer clause.  The Magpies ran riot against Ange Postecoglou's side as Alexander Isak, Anthony Gordon and Fabian Schar all struck to seal three points for the hosts.  The victory has helped put them in pole position for a place in next season's Europa League, after leapfrogging Man United, but it also appears to have come at a price.
