She is the 'queen of the bonkbuster', with a worldwide reputation for writing incredibly steamy sex scenes. However, Dame Jilly Cooper has fallen foul of sarcastic American television executives, who are worried that a forthcoming adaptation of her raunchy novel Rivals would be too much for modern viewers. Multiple scenes of the star-studded series have been reshot by bosses at a subscription service, fearing that they are inappropriate in the post-MeToo period. However, Dame Jilly's 1988 novel, which is set in the fictional county of Rutshire, should not have come as a surprise. After gaining the rights, Disney announced that the book was "full of sex" and involved "drama, excess, and shocking antics."

In television, Jilly Cooper, 86, says it is a "shame" that men are subpoenas and that women are "so bossy": "Woke culture is a bore."

With her 1988 novel Rivals (inset) likely to debut on televisions next year starring Aidan Turner, David Tennant, and Alex Hassell, 86-year-old Jilly (left) has voiced her doubts about modern television. The Disney+ series will eventually be steamy, but the author told The Sun that male characters are too often depicted as'submissive,' while female characters are'so bossy.' Jilly said, "They are so bossy and dominant when they see women on the telly now." Both men must be much more submissive, which I find sad.' In the 1993 version of Jilly's book 'Riders,' Marcus Gilbert and Cecile Paoli are shown right.
