M&S targets Gen-Z shoppers by spending as much on TikTok and YouTube videos as it does on TV adverts

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 5, 2024
Marks and Spencer is spending as much on TikTok and YouTube videos as it does on TV adverts as the company looks to attract more Generation-Z shoppers. The retailer said investment on it's social media content had increased by 80 per cent as it looked to 'move with the times'. Having been at the centre of a series of recent viral hits, the 130-year-old business wants to shift the marketing focus away from its traditional middle-class audiences and concentrate on winning over younger shoppers. The push comes after bosses attributed a boost in sales to more Gen Z customers shopping in its stores and online. Their investment drive will see them create more videos on apps including TikTok and YouTube, as well as paying influencers to advertise products.
