Professional career

Abrines appeared for Clás Rincón and Unicaja between 2010 and 2012. In July 2012, he was sold to Barcelona, Spain.

The Oklahoma City Thunder selected Abrines as the 32nd overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft on June 27, 2013.

Abrines re-signed with Barcelona on May 19, 2015. He was named the EuroLeague Rising Star in May 2016 in May. He spent four seasons with Barcelona, winning three titles with the club, including one Spanish King's Cup and one Spanish Super Cup. Abrines parted with Barcelona on July 19, 2016.

Abrines signed with the Oklahoma City Thunder on July 23, 2016. In a 103-97 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers, he made his Thunder debut in their season opener on October 26, 2016, scoring three points off the bench. In a 121–110 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans on December 21, 2016, he fired five three-pointers and finished with a career-best 18 points. In a 110–93 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on February 24, 2017, Abrines tied for the first time in his career, scoring 19 points for his first career start.

In a 102-101 overtime victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on December 9, 2017, Abrines, starting in place of the injured Paul George, scored a career-high 20 points.

In a 111–107 victory over the Charlotte Hornets on November 1, 2018, Abrines had 25 points on five 3-pointers. In a 124-109 victory over the Atlanta Hawks earlier this month, Abrines scored 21 points off a career-high seven three pointers.

The Thunder waived Abrines on February 9, 2019.

Abrines agreed to a two-year contract with FC Barcelona with the possibility of a third year on July 12, 2019. He continued his employment with the team until 2026 on June 30, 2021. On September 17, Abrines sustained a knee injury and was barred for four months.

National team career

Abrines has competed for Spain's junior national teams. He received the gold medal at the 2011 FIBA Europe Under-18 Championship, where he was selected to the All-Tournament Team and named tournament MVP. He earned the bronze medal at the 2012 FIBA Europe Under-20 Championship, which he also represented. He earned bronze medal at the Rio Olympics in 2016 with the senior Spain national basketball team. He also played at EuroBasket 2017.
