Alessandra Ferri Life

Alessandra Ferri (born 6 May 1963) is an Italian prima ballerina.

Before retiring on August 10, 2007, aged 44, she danced with the Royal Ballet (1980–1984), American Ballet Theatre (1985–2007), and La Scala Theatre Ballet (1992–2007), as an international guest artist (1992–2007) and as an international guest artist (1992–2007).

She was eventually awarded the rank of prima ballerina assoluta.

Personal life

Ferri has two children: Matilde (born in 1997) and Emma (born in 2001), who spent her mother on stage at her farewell performance. Fabrizio Ferri, an Italian photographer who founded the art school in Milan, Italy, is their father. They live in New York.

Career

Alessandra Ferri was born in Milan, Italy. She began studying ballet at the La Scala Theatre Ballet School, later moving to the Royal Ballet School's upper class. In the 1980s, she represented the Royal Ballet School of Lausanne, receiving a scholarship that enabled her to continue attending the academy.

Ferri began performing in 1980 and was selected for the Laurence Olivier Award in Ballet for her first major role in the ballet Mayerling. In 1983, she was nominated for and received the Laurence Olivier Award for Outstanding Individual Achievement of the Year in a New Dance Production for her role in Sir Kenneth MacMillan's Valley of Shadows. In 1983, she was promoted to the rank of Principal Dancer.

Ferri left the Royal Ballet at the request of Mikhail Baryshnikov to join the American Ballet Theatre as a Principal Dancer, under Baryshnikov's direction. She said she needed a more structured training program than the company could provide. In her farewell performance of Romeo and Juliet in 2007, she brought Roberto Bolle to dance opposite her.

Ferri was born in 1992 as a Guest Star of American Ballet Theatre and began a close relationship with La Scala Theatre Ballet, becoming known as Prima Ballerina Assoluta of the company.

She returned to dance after retiring in 2013 after appearing in Spoleto's The Piano Upstairs. Lea in Cheri's performance for Signature Theatre, The Raven for Gotham Chamber Opera, and Woolf Works with Royal Ballet's Lea.

In June 2017, she appeared in the ballet Marguerite and Armand at the Royal Opera House.
