Alenka Bratusek Life

Alenka Bratuek (born 31 March 1970) is a Slovenian public servant.

She served as Slovenia's Prime Minister from March 2013 to May 2014, becoming Slovenia's first female Prime Minister to hold this position.

She served as president pro tempore of the Positive Slovenia Party from January 2013 to April 2014.

Bratuek resigned as Prime Minister on May 5th, 2014.

Life

Bratuek was born in Celje. She studied at the University of Ljubljana's Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology. She continued her studies at the University of Ljubljana and went on to obtain a master's degree in management from the Faculty of Social Sciences. She served for six years as the Ministry of Finance's Directorate for the State Budget prior to entering politics.

An anonymous person chastised Bratuek in March 2013 because she had not cited a source on one page of her master's thesis. Her work has 88 pages with 34 published sources, but journalists only counted 11 that had been cited; among them were internal documents of the firm Javni gospodarski zavod Brdo, where she was a member and later chair of the board. The Slovenian novice journalists also went through her book, claiming that Bratuek plagiarized one page from another author's book (regarding Gsta Esping-Andersen's categation of welfare) without proper citation. The Faculty of Social Sciences, her alma mater, has opened an inquiry into suspected plagiarism. "Bratuek in her master's thesis used works of other writers in contravention of current citation policies," the commission found, but it cannot be backed up scientifically and scientifically determined that the thesis was not a result of her work."

Family life

In Kranj, Bratuek lives with her partner. She has a son and a daughter. Oskar Cvjetianin's son, who plays for Southampton academy, is a footballer and plays for Southampton Academy.

Alenka Bratusek Career

Political career

She ran in local elections on Slovenia's Liberal Democracy List (LDS) in 2006 and was elected to the Kranj city council. Bratuek unsuccessfully ran for Parliament on the Social Liberal Party's list in 2008. She changed allegiance to Hermina Krt's List at the next local elections in 2010 and was elected to the Kranj city council once more. She was elected on the Positive Slovenia Party's electoral roll in the 2011 early parliamentary elections. She served as the chairperson of the parliamentary Committee on Budget Control during her tenure as a senator.

Following charges posed by the official Commission for Corruption Prevention and Corruption, Bratuek was elected president of the Positive Slovenia party on January 17th, 2013. Also following the study, center-right leader Janez Jana's government was given a vote of no confidence.

Bratuek was nominated to be one of the European Commission's vice presidents under Junker's Presidency on September 10, 2014, but her nomination was denied on October 8, 2014, mainly due to her inexperience.

Bratuek was elected prime minister-designate of Slovenia on February 27. "Her government will last no longer than her skirt's length," the center-right Slovenian Democratic Party responded by tweeting about "her government that will last no longer than her skirt's length." (In the case, Alenka Bratuek served as Prime Minister from March 2013 to April 2014.) Gregor Virant applauded the outcome of the election, saying that it would allow Slovenia to move forward. According to foreign media, Bratuek's government will be difficult to form a new government, and she's doubted that the changes initiated by Jan's government will be maintained.

PS and the Social Democrats were elected to a new parliamentary majority. Bratuek established a government on March 20th. She presided over the establishment of the country's first mosque during her tenure.

Her government obtained a vote of confidence by 50 to 31 on November 15 in avoiding a financial bailout.

After losing Positive Slovenia's leadership to Zoran Jankovi on April 26, she resigned from Positive Slovenia on May 29, 2014. Bratuek resigned as prime minister after this development, and it will go into operation on May 5th, 2014. She officially resigned on May 5th, prompting talk about a snap election later this year. She resigned as Slovenia's first prime minister to resign from office; her resignation took effect on May 8th.

Alenka Bratuek (Zavezni Bratuek; ZaAB) founded her own party Alliance on May 31 in 2014. ZaAB gained four seats in the National Assembly, including one for Bratuek, at the following election in July.

Bratuek had nominated herself for the post of Vice President of the European Commission under the Junker Presidency in her final days as Prime Minister, but her nomination was turned down on October 8, 2014, out of 135 votes against her nomination. Miro Cerar, the Prime Minister of Slovenia, has nominated Slovenian entrepreneur Violeta Bulc.
