Perhaps a serving of nostalgia - three hours of it to be precise - comes at a good time for Manchester United. '99, a new three-part documentary film charting the Treble-winning season of 1998-99, airs globally on Friday on Amazon Prime video. And at a time where watching Manchester United on the pitch has largely brought fans bucketloads of frustration and angst as they head into the final league game against Brighton on Sunday running the risk of missing out on Europe entirely, '99 provides something akin to a warm hug.

CHRIS WHEELER AT OLD TRAFFORD: If this does indeed prove to be Erik ten Hag's farewell to Old Trafford, at least he goes out with a win. Manchester United gave their manager the kind of performance that has so often been lacking in this most wretched of seasons. The kind that will make Ten Hag wonder what might have been. Where has this spirit been for the past 10 months? This backbone? Who knows, Ten Hag may yet get another shot. But if his team had played like this on a more regular basis, the Dutchman wouldn't be in this mess in the first place. Bruno Fernandes has rarely let Ten Hag down and on Wednesday night he played like he had a point to prove in a week when his own future at United has come under scrutiny.

Fernandes is under contract at Old Trafford until 2026 but is believed to be open to a move, particularly if United do not qualify for Europe. Team-mates fear he could up sticks after four-and-a-half years at the club. Fernandes, 29, is having a decent season, having scored 15 goals and created 11 others, although his leadership has also been criticised by Roy Keane.Bayern think they can tempt him because he is increasingly frustrated at United.

Manchester United players are reportedly avoiding passing to Rasmus Hojlund because of a crisis in confidence in him - and Mail Sport can reveal who is passing to him less than before. His team-mates are unconvinced by him and one explained that some are looking for other options when they get in the final third.

Erik ten Hag insists he has 'no doubt' that he is the man who can turn Manchester United's fortunes around, despite falling to a 14th Premier League defeat of the season against Arsenal. The Portuguese superstar is a warrior and is always eager to fight through the pain barrier - notable when he had to grit his teeth to get through an FA Cup tie at Nottingham Forest earlier this season after being kicked around days prior in a defeat against Fulham, or when he bandaged up his hand during the FA Cup semi-final against Coventry City. His absence for the 4-0 demolition at Selhurst Park made it 63 separate cases of injury and illness to have hampered United this season, something boss Erik ten Hag continues to struggle to truly comprehend.

OLIVER HOLT: I hate to break it to Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sir Dave Brailsford (pictured inset left, right and left) but buying a different kind of pillow for Casemiro (top right) isn't going to fix this. Manchester United's inconsistent season continued over the weekend - as Erik ten Hag's side has to settle for a 1-1 draw with relegation battlers Burnley. Reports earlier this week claimed that United's entire squad is up for sale, bar Kobbie Mainoo, Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho, with Rashford one of those at risk of being moved on. It comes as part of Sir Jim Ratcliffe's attempts to overhaul United and restore them to their former glories after another difficult campaign. Rashford has struggled this season and a potential exit is attractive to United, given any cash raised in a sale would count as pure profit due to the forward's status as an academy graduate, thereby helping them to deal with FFP restrictions.

Manchester United have received allegations that 'scumbag' fans are posing as disabled supporters to gain access to away matches this season. The club are given dedicated wheelchair spaces for every away fixture but Chas Banks, secretary of the Manchester United Disabled Supporters' Association, told the latest meeting of the Fans' Forum there has been 'widespread misuse' of these tickets by a group of disabled fans. These have either been passed on to non-disabled supporters directly or through a third party in breach of United's ticket rules.

The brother of a Manchester United's Alejandro Garnacho aimed a dig at Cody Gakpo before Liverpool's draw with West Ham.  The Reds' title hopes took yet another dent as there were held to a 2-2 draw by David Moyes' men at the London Stadium.  The result has seen Jurgen Klopp's side remain behind Arsenal and Manchester City ahead of their matches on Sunday. 

The two academy graduates have been among the team's best players in a wobbling season. Ethan Wheatley became United's 250th academy graduate to make his debut for the club this week in their 4-2 win over Sheffield United at Old Trafford. There has been at least one academy graduate in every single matchday squad for more than 4,000 matches, a tradition running back to 1937.

Erik ten Hag has hailed Manchester United's proud record of producing young talent after Ethan Wheatley became the 250th academy graduate to play for the first team in Wednesday night's win over Sheffield United at Old Trafford. Wheatley achieved the milestone when he came on as an 89th-minute substitute for Rasmus Hojlund in United's 4-2 win, 24 hours after helping the club's Under-18s reach the FA Youth Cup final when he scored both goals in a 2-1 victory over Manchester City. Wheatley, 18, was one of five academy teenagers on the bench which also included Omari Forson, Harry Amass, Louis Jackson and Habeeb Ogunneye. He is the sixth academy player to make his senior debut under Ten Hag.

MANCHESTER UNITED 4-2 SHEFFIELD UNITED - CHRIS WHEELER AT OLD TRAFFORD: Nothing is straightforward for Manchester United at this moment in what has been a tough season. Three days after their Wembley wobbles almost cost Erik ten Hag's side a place in the FA Cup final, they were at it again. Twice they trailed to a team that started the night seven points adrift at the foot of the table, and twice they had to drag themselves back into this game. Bruno Fernandes' second goal of the night and Rasmus Hojlund first since February got them out of trouble but this was hardly stellar opposition. When Fernandes scored his first from the spot, the Blades broke Derby's record of conceding 89 goals in a 38-game Premier League season.

Manchester United's penalty shootout FA Cup semi-final win over Coventry City brought more questions than answers - both in terms of Erik ten Hag and his players.  This has been a season riddled by mistakes on and off the pitch for United and with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his Ineos team now assuming control of football operations, a summer shake-up feels inevitable.  United are looking to raise £100million through player sales and for some shown the door that will mean accepting a sizeable loss on their initial transfer outlay. Manchester United's Antony has been described as a 'shameless prat' after he goaded defeated Coventry players with an ear-cupping celebration. The £85million Brazilian mocked the Sky Blues after his team scraped into the FA Cup final on penalties having chucked away a three-goal lead and then escaped defeat by a tight VAR offside decision. After Rasmus Hojlund scored the decisive penalty, Antony was among a handful of United players who celebrated, with the overriding emotion one of relief and acute embarrassment.

NATHAN SALT AT WEMBLEY: 'We can play [to] very high levels within the same match, and also we can go [to] very low levels in the same game,' Erik ten Hag mused in the bowels of Wembley Stadium. 'That's not explainable but it has to do with managing the game, taking responsibility, taking responsibility for each other. I have to teach my players clearly. We have to do better in such occasions [after conceding] but the difficult thing to do is put ourselves in a winning position, the last thing is much easier.'
