Manchester United brought an end to their recent malaise with a 2-1 victory over Brentford on Saturday. Erik ten Hag's side were abject in the first half and were a goal down at the break before Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund turned it around after the restart. Ten Hag's future had been in doubt over the international break and the win against Thomas Frank's team quietened the noise around Old Trafford - at least until they take on Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce in the Europa League on Thursday.
Rasmus Hojlund shows what Man United have been missing as the £72m Dane showcases his physicality and directness before netting superbly-taken winner against Brentford, writes CHRIS WHEELER

CHRIS WHEELER AT OLD TRAFFORD: When Rasmus Hojlund limped off after scoring against Arsenal in Los Angeles, we didn't expect it would be another two months before he was back in action. Having scored on his comeback against FC Porto in Europe earlier this month, Hojlund claimed his first league goal of the season as United came from behind to win.
Man United 2-1 Brentford: Second-half goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund see hosts come from behind to end their five-game winless run and ease the pressure on Erik ten Hag

OLIVER HOLT AT OLD TRAFFORD: Manchester United sacked one manager - their greatest manager - during the international break when they ended Sir Alex Ferguson's ambassadorial role with the club and banned him from the home dressing room at the ground where a stand is named after him. At half-time of their match with Brentford at Old Trafford, with Erik ten Hag's side trailing by a goal and looking as if they were about to sink even lower in the bottom half of the table, you could have got decent odds of them firing two bosses in a week.
Man United 2-1 Brentford PLAYER RATINGS: Who was 'unflappable at the heart of the hosts' defence'? Who 'grew into the game using his physical presence'? And who had a 'torrid time' for the visitors?

October 19, 2024
CHRIS WHEELER AT OLD TRAFFORD: Erik ten Hag looks set to survive another day as Manchester United manager as his side came from behind to secure a much-needed victory against Brentford. The Bees have made a habit of scoring early in recent weeks but United's backline held firm throughout much of the opening 45 minutes before Ethan Pinnock fired them in front on the brink of the interval. United desperately needed a response in the second-half at Old Trafford and got an emphatic one in the form of goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund.

Wayne Rooney SLAMS 'crazy' decision to substitute Marcus Rashford at half-time against Porto - after Man United star scored opener before being hooked by Erik ten Hag
www.dailymail.co.uk,
October 10, 2024
Wayne Rooney has ripped into Erik ten Hag's decision to substitute Marcus Rashford during Man United's 3-3 draw with Porto last week. Rashford had given United the lead in the seventh minute with a fine solo effort but didn't emerge for the second half, with Alejandro Garnacho entering the fray. After cutting inside from the left flank and showcasing his skills, Rashford went for goal, with his effort beating Diogo Costa and nestling in the back of the net.
Man United first-team star returns early from international duty with illness as Erik ten Hag's ongoing crisis worsens
www.dailymail.co.uk,

Manchester United 's injury crisis has been dealt another blow after a first-team regular was forced to return from international duty early with illness that could stop him from training. United's dismal Premier League start has left them 14th in the Premier League standings and injuries are only likely to further cause a selection headache for Ten Hag and his coaching team.

Man United star withdraws from international duty with knee problem in fresh injury blow for Erik ten Hag
www.dailymail.co.uk,
October 7, 2024
Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho has pulled out of the Argentina squad for the upcoming international break with a knee complaint. The winger featured in the Red Devils' goalless draw with Aston Villa on Sunday and, like most of his attacking counterparts, had a quiet afternoon, testing Emiliano Martinez once in the first-half with a strike to the near post. With four goals and three assists in his opening 11 matches, Garnacho has made a solid start to the season and will be looking to take this form into the weeks ahead as United desperately attempt to turn their campaign around. He was due to meet up with his La Selección teammates this week ahead of World Cup qualifiers against Venezuela and Bolivia. In the last international break, he played just 11 minutes in blue and white yet he made an impact, assisting Paulo Dybala in a 3-0 drubbing of Chile.
Man United boss Erik ten Hag names where his team must 'step up' following draw with Aston Villa
www.dailymail.co.uk,
October 7, 2024
United drew 0-0 away to Villa on Sunday in a largely uneventful encounter. After conceding three goals in the defeat by Tottenham and the draw with Porto, Ten Hag (left) will have been pleased that his side managed to keep a clean sheet. However, the Dutchman feels that there are still aspects of their game which United can work on. United are currently in 14th place after enduring their worst ever start to a Premier League season.
Not even Man United boss Erik ten Hag seems convinced by the players from his £616.9m spending spree after his team selection at Aston Villa cast an unfavourable light on his recruitment
www.dailymail.co.uk,
October 7, 2024
When he needed a result and a performance to potentially save his job and avoid Manchester United's worst start to a Premier League season, Erik ten Hag didn't simply roll out the big guns he has bought as part of a £600million transfer spend over two-and-a-half years at Old Trafford. When the heat was on and he entered what felt like the last chance saloon, Ten Hag didn't try to blow Aston Villa out of the water with big names and big price tags. No, he named a line-up for what could feasibly have been his last game as United manager that contained three star pupils from the club's academy (Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo), two free transfers (Christian Eriksen and Jonny Evans) and three players he inherited after arriving at Old Trafford from Ajax (Bruno Fernandes, Harry Maguire and Diogo Dalot).

The fastest Premier League players revealed as Erling Haaland and Micky van de Ven join TWO Man United stars in the top 10... but who comes in at No 1?
www.dailymail.co.uk,
October 2, 2024
The Premier League has revealed the top 10 fastest speeds set by players this season, with a defender sitting well clear at the top of the list. Tottenham Hotspur Micky van de Ven holds the crown when he clocked a rapid pace of 23.06mph during his side's 3-0 victory over Manchester United last Sunday. The Dutch centre-back hit the afterburners during first-half stoppage time when he had to track back and make a tackle on Red Devils winger Alejandro Garnacho.
Erik ten Hag wins trophies, has a track record of developing young players and now has a footballing structure to work in... if Sir Jim Ratcliffe was telling the truth about trusting the process, now it's time to prove it

NATHAN SALT: The case for the defence. Difficult to make this week, granted. Back in the Netherlands, Ten Hag is currently being dismissed as a 'pathetic little man', while other prominent columnists have hit out at him for being 'stupid and naive' in his transfer dealings. Mail Sport reported on Monday that there is a feeling among players in the dressing room that the sacking of Ten Hag feels imminent following the aberration against Tottenham.
Revealed: Jack Stephens given new two-match suspension for launching four-word TIRADE at official during Southampton's loss to Man United
www.dailymail.co.uk,
October 1, 2024
Southampton captain Jack Stephens will serve an additional two-match suspension after already missing three games following his red card against Manchester United. Stephens was sent off by referee Stuart Attwell for a dangerous challenge on Alejandro Garnacho in the 79th minute of his side's 3-0 home loss. The 30-year-old was banned for three matches for that red card but he has now been hit with another punishment for his 'improper conduct' after he was dismissed.
Man United 0-3 Tottenham PLAYER RATINGS: Who was well below par for Man United? Which new Red Devils signing struggled with the pace of the game? And who was Spurs' star man?
www.dailymail.co.uk,
September 29, 2024
Manchester United 's miserable 3-0 defeat at home to Tottenham Hotspur left fans asking tough questions about individual performances. With several players failing to meet expectations, the match exposed weaknesses all over the pitch. Who were the main culprits in United's collapse, and how did Spurs capitalise so effectively? Some new signings, expected to make an impact, struggled to adapt to the pace and physicality of the Premier League .
Erik ten Hag is out of excuses. His time is UP. United's attitude stinks of entitlement and the manager cannot eradicate it, writes OLIVER HOLT after their embarrassing 3-0 defeat at home by Tottenham
www.dailymail.co.uk,
September 29, 2024
MANCHESTER UNITED 0-3 TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR - OLIVER HOLT AT OLD TRAFFORD: The truth is that Ten Hag is out of excuses. His time is up. There is no hiding place for him any more. His boasts about winning minor trophies are worthless when his team plays like this. Let's be honest about what United stand for as we enter the autumn of the year: no philosophy, no identity, no discipline, no guile, no pattern, no determination, no adventure, no belief, no subtlety, no desire, no intent, no plan. Apart from that, everything's fine. United's attitude stinks. Entitlement runs through them and Ten Hag simply cannot eradicate it, however big he talks and however tough he acts.

Erik ten Hag blasts his 'complacent' Man United side for 'keeping Twente alive' during their disheartening Europa League draw... and says his team were punished by their own mistakes
www.dailymail.co.uk,
September 26, 2024
Erik ten Hag vented his frustration at his Manchester United players for keeping Dutch opponent FC Twente 'alive' in Wednesday's disappointing 1-1 Europa League draw at Old Trafford. The United coach watched on miserably as his side unravelled in the second-half against his former club and eventually conceded a cheap goal after a passage of poor team defending. Twente scored a dream goal upon their return to European competition after more than a decade away when full-back Bart van Rooij went on a monstrous run past four United players on his way to the edge of the box.
Revealed: How wasteful Man United have missed the most big chances in the Premier League this season - but which player is the biggest culprit?
www.dailymail.co.uk,
September 24, 2024
The Red Devils have had a mixed start to the campaign and are currently 11th in the league table, with two wins, one draw and two defeats to their names so far. Erik ten Hag had bid to turn around his side's goal scoring struggles from last year, with United scoring 57 league goals - the fewest in the top half of the table - in the league last term. Those struggles are yet to turn around, however, with United drawing 0-0 with Crystal Palace on Saturday despite having 15 shots and nearly 67 per cent of possession.
Erik ten Hag urges Man United to be more ruthless in front of goal and to 'kill inside the box' after wasting several chances in goalless stalemate with Crystal Palace
www.dailymail.co.uk,
September 24, 2024
CHRIS WHEELER: Although United enjoyed a 7-0 win over Barnsley in the Carabao Cup last week, they have only scored five goals in five games in the Premier League, failing to score in two of them. United added more firepower in the summer by spending £36.5million on Joshua Zirkzee (bottom right, right) - having previously spent £72m on Rasmus Hojlund and £86m on Antony under Ten Hag (left) - but the Dutchman believes they still need to be more clinical after finishing with a negative goal difference in the Premier League for the first time last season. United were guilty of wasting a number of chances in Saturday's goalless draw at Crystal Palace when Alejandro Garnacho (top right) and Bruno Fernandes hit the bar.
