Albin Ekdal Career

Club career

Albin Ekdal began his professional playing career with Brommapojkarna at the start of the 2007 Allsvenskan season. He played mainly as a central midfielder but also as an attacking midfielder or right midfielder.

Ekdal first signed a four-year deal with Juventus of Italy's Serie A on May 23. He made his Serie A and club debut on October 18th in a 2–1 away loss to Napoli, with Will Poulsen playing as a replacement in the 75th minute.

Siena, a top-flight club in Italy, and Siena joined Ekdal on loan for a season on July 15, 2009. He made 27 appearances for the Tuscans, who were ultimately relegated at the end of the season, and scored once in a 4–3 loss away to eventual treble winners Inter Milan on January 9, 2010.

Juventus sold 50% of its Ekdal ownership rights to Bologna on June 28, 2010. As per the contract, the two clubs will determine who will have him as a player at the start of each season. He appeared in 23 games for the Rossoblu and scored on the anniversary of his last goal, leading to a 2–0 win at Bari.

Ekdal was sold by the end of August 2011 to Cagliari, a Serie A side.

Cagliari defeated 4-1 at Inter Milan on September 28, 2014, with Ekdal scoring a hat-trick.

Hamburger SV, a German club, agreed to Ekdal from Cagliari on a four-year contract worth €4.5 million per season, with salaries of €600,000 per season. He was given the number 20 shirt.

In total, he played 57 games for the team, who struggled against relegation in every one of his three years with the club, which culminated in the team's eventual fall into the second rank. In 2018, the Bundesliga rolled out a new generation. He scored once for the Hamburg team, the only goal of a home win over Hertha BSC on March 5th.

After 33 minutes of a 1–0 loss at VfL Wolfsburg on January 21, 2017, Ekdal received his first red card of his career.

Following Hamburg's relegation from the Bundesliga, Ekdal returned to Serie A on August 14th by signing for Sampdoria.

Ekdal has signed a two-year deal with Spezia on July 13, 2022.

International career

In a friendly game against Ukraine in Kharkiv, Ekdal made his debut for Sweden on August 10th. In a 1–0 victory, he came on as a 60th-minute replacement for Sebastian Larsson.

Despite a drastic decrease in his back from celebrating Hamburg's recent Bundesliga survival, his participation was put in jeopardy. He appeared in each match as the Swedes fell to the bottom of their group.

In June 2018, Ekdal was named in Sweden's 23-man squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. He appeared in all five games of a run to the quarter-finals.

Ekdal was named in Sweden's 26-man squad for UEFA Euro 2020.
