Albert Dailey Life

Albert Preston Dailey (June 16, 1939-84), an American jazz pianist, was born in 1939.

Early life

Dailey was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and he was raised in it. Albert Preston Dailey Sr. and Gertrude Johnson Dailey were his parents. He began playing piano as a youth, and his first professional appearances were with the Baltimore Royal Theater's house band in the 1950s. He studied at Morgan State University and the Peabody Conservatory later in the decade.

Later life and career

Damita Jo DuBlanc supported him on tour from 1960 to 1963, and after that, he assembled his own trio in Washington, D.C., competing at the Bohemian Caverns. He moved to New York City in 1964, where he competed with Dexter Gordon, Roy Haynes, Sarah Vaughan, Charles Mingus, and Freddie Hubbard. He appeared with Woody Herman at the Monterey Jazz Festival in 1967 and appeared with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers from 1968 to 1969.

Dailey performed with Sonny Rollins, Stan Getz, Elvin Jones, and Archie Shepp in the 1970s. He appeared at Carnegie Hall in the 1980s and was a member of the Upper Manhattan Jazz Society with Charlie Rouse, Benny Bailey, and Buster Williams.

Dailey, a 45-year-old man, died in Denver on June 26, 1984. Dailey is largely survived by his three children, five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
