Blanchard is the niece of Holt and Cydney Blanchard's daughter. She has two brothers, Byron (older) and Dorian (younger).

Blanchard first began dating Australian pro surfer Jack Freestone while on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii, in 2013. In June 2017, the couple revealed that they were expecting their first child. Banks Harvey, their son, was born on December 2, 2017. In June 2019, the couple got engaged. The couple revealed on March 6th, 2021, they were expecting their second child, which is likely to arrive in July.

Alana Blanchard was taught how to surf by her father, Holt, when she was just 4 years old. At Hanalei Pier in Kauai, Alana rode her first wave. When she was nine years old, then competed for the first time. At the 2005 T&C Women's Pipeline Championships, Blanchard took first place in shortboard. Blanchard began modeling and illustrating a line of wetsuits in 2004, 2004. Rip Curl stopped offering assistance in 2020, which Blanchard cites to her becoming a mother. The Alana Blanchard Foundation (ABF) was established in May 2017 with the intention of promoting female participation in the sport of surfing.
